Hi,

I am not with Vonage at all but I was wondering if any of you wizards here might be able to assist. Apologies if this is against all the rules.

I am connecting to a Voip provider running asterix. At some stage in last 4 months their VM system no longer recognises input from my telephone. Its a BT Synergy 3105 quad wireless system, this is plugged into a WRT54GP2. DTMF is set to auto on the linksys.

The phones I have issue one tone when navigating the VM system and basically have a 15% sucess rate in being identified. When testing I swapped the system for a slightly different phone model BT Freestyle 2200 that issues 2 tones for each key press, this results in an 85% sucess rate. I also swapped around filters etc but no difference.

Either something on my end changed (I have upgraded the linksys firmware at their behest a few times, last time was about 3 months ago), or else something on theirs has. Neither of us know where to go from here.

Would anyone have an idea ?

Don't know if this helps, but I can offer this:

All phones that produce DTMF properly produce two tone...DTMF stands for Dual Tone Multi Frequency. Each key press generates a tone for the row and a tone for the column. Some phones generate these tones for as long as you hold the key down, while others limit the tone generation to a pre-set time limit. SOme pre-set time limit DTMF generating phones (that's a mouth full) will not work properly with tone recognition equipment. Where possible always use a phone that generates a continuous tone set when a key is pressed.

In the IP world we now introduce a new dimension. DTMF codes are sent as data and regernerate on the far end when the conversion from digital to analog takes place. Not sure how Vonage or other Voip systems work, but I would guess that the time these tones are generated are pre-set and not continuous. This may be the problem.
