The 30 day rule about shorting only pertains to the underwriters on the IPO, they cannot lend shares to be shorted for 30 days. The rest of "us", institutions and retails investors can short immediately after trading begins. But in reality, usually won't happen, there just won't be shares available to short. I've used the Bidu example before, but again, during their IPO, a lot of investors wanted to short the stock upon trading. As far as I know, no shares were available to short a good week or so after the IPO and even then in very limited supply.

When will the allocations be made and when will trading commence??? Another question: the revised prospectus on page 131 states: Subject to the lock-up agreements described in ‘‘Underwriting’’ and the provisions of Rules 144 and 144(k), shares will be available for sale in the public market as follows: Number of Shares Date 445,920 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . After the date of this prospectus. 124,036,520 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . After 180 days from the date of this prospectus. What are the 445,920 shares that will be available for sale "after the date of this prospectus"????? Thanks for any info!!! Jim |
relax the allotment will post today... As soon as it prices tonight after the close.
As for the other shares... There are additional shares available to the underwriters for purchase for covering overalotments that can be excersied up to 30 days. There are also additional shares from the converted notes.... (If I am reading this correctly. Anyone else have an opinion?) |

So based on my original post under this subject Monday, I guess I am semi-happy. I stated I actually would like to see me get about 1000 of my 4000 share offer, which I did, that shows good demand. But on the other hand, priced at $17, which shows average demand. So..we'll see in about 3 hours what this does!
On another note, I'll also see if my theory worked on picking a broker. All I have seen on this site is Barney and UBS, which I figured 90%+ of people would choose, so I choose Alex Brown because the average person has not heard of them. Upside is maybe easier to talk to someone because not as busy, downside is they have a lot less offices (and brokers) as well. No online access for them if anyone is wondering, no broker assigned, and a general "main" Baltimore number listed on the Vonage IPO site.
So good luck to all around 10am ish!!
