PostPosted: Sun May 21, 2006 9:03 am    Post subject: Does a $9.99/m Fax Line Include All Vonage Calling Features? Reply with quote Back to top

What exactly does Vonage's Fax Line include for features? Does it come with ALL the normal features included with their voice plans or are some cut out? No one seems to know, including the CSR's at Vonage.
Someone must have a Fax Line on here and could tell me.
Thank you!

OK... After answering your question, I will step away from my laptop and do penance for not answering sooner.

Through Vonage, I have two home phone lines (unlimited calls) and a dedicated fax only line (which happens to also be the only analog line in the house).

My fax machine has a caller ID display and can print out a report of all the numbers I have sent/received faxes to/from. Another nice feature is viewing the activity on my fax line when I check my Vonage account online.

So the answer is "YES", caller ID works on the dedicated fax only line for $9.99/month. Very Happy

I hope this helps. This is copied from my reply in your original post in the other forum.

Yes, all you need to do is just to purchase a separate device/phone adapter at the same time purchase a fax line on the same account and have that device/phone adapter's mac address registered in Vonage and have a CSR in Vonage move your fax line to your new device/phone adapter.

Does it include call forwarding too. I.e. when travelling to shoot them to an efax like service?

The only real problem with a fax line is it doesn't work with most fax machines. Those it does work with have to redial multiple times to get it to go through.

RULE#1........If you need to fax for ANY important reason.

DON"T USE VONAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was lied to multiple times.

Then I worked with techs for 2 days 8 hours. Lower the baud rate they say, turn off ECM they say. To Vonage faxing has to go back 30 years technologically to work. May as well send carrier pigeons. Finally they discovered they also couldn't fax to about five locations in the USA that I gave them the number to They claim it's a problem at the OTHER end. 17 other people with regular telephone service fax to these locations daily as I did 2 weeks ago with Verizon.

Simply put, faxing with Vonage is hit and miss depending where you are faxing to and where you are.

I have the Vonage Motorola VT2142 adapter( is this a good or bad one) one voice line and one fax line. I am just about fed up with trying to fax and will probably go back to a real telephone company. I was told all Brother faxes have problems but on the other forums it seems about 100% of all fax machines have at least intermittent problems faxing.

I'm very upset that I was told it would work, also was told my distinctive ring number was transferable and IT WASN'T ! I was told as long as I had power and no problems with my provider it would work. LIES, LIES, LIES!!!!!!

I need my fax to work not sometimes but every time.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. If you are poor get Vonage if not steer clear. I will be getting out of this Flintstones train wreck called Vonage soon and going back to the future.

Vonage doesn't work well for faxing. That's a fact. Get an e-mail to fax service for the same or less money with a dedicated fax number and be happy. Some services will event port your fax number to their service. Look at efax, faxaway and faxmicro. There are many others. Vonage is a great Voip Service. Use it for your telephone.

Yes, trying to get a fax machine to work with Voip internet phone can be a hastle, and a headache. Changing the resolution to standard, lowering baud, and turning off ECM seems to work on most fax machines regardless of make or model "most of the time". However, you also need to take into concideration that you may have packet loss, jitter, latency, or inadequate bandwidth. These can all add up to corrupt a transmission.

If you need assistance in configuring your fax machine, such as where to find the information to change these 3 things, you can look at VoIPFrustration. There are over 600 fax machines listed there, as well as some of the other things you can check to make faxing more successful.
