I've been dealing all week with Comcast and their packet loss and upload problems. The tracert I ran failed at comcast.quincy. I lose packets. No one can hear me speak, but I hear them fine. I have friends with the same issues.

On May 14th I get someone who admits to a known problem for the last 3 weeks.

They had the house checked and all was well. They checked the pole and all was well. So it would make perfect sense for them to then go check the switching station. But instead they came back to check the house. Ran the same tests and show me nothing is wrong. Now they get a weekend reprive

You can contact them and not deal with the phone menus, or the front line of defense. Call Jim Kennedy at his direct line and tell him your issue. [ADMIN EDIT]. He told me I could give it out to people with the issue.

I appear to be having the same problem and I live in the Boston Metro area. I am running a pap2 adapter with my linksys g router. Up until last week II begin to have problems with my voage service. I am experiecing intermitten loss in voice. During a conversation the person voice would fade in and out for 10 secs and would come back. At first I ingnored the problem and bumped my bandwith saver up to 50kb via my Vonage account, but I started to notice that nothing changed and the problem kept reccuring. Is there anything that can be done about this?

The issue was this:

In areas where they did upgrades, most of the old style modems died. They said the newer ones had no problem. But it turns out that this isn't accurate. Once they changed the modem, the phone has worked fine.

Call Jim Kennedy at the above number and tell him your problem, and tell him you need a new modem.

You can run a ping test and make sure that you have no timeouts. run it for a couple of minutes.

To run a ping test:

start menu

Click on run

A window will pop up, type cmd

When the cmd window pops up, type the following and hit return:
ping www.yahoo.com -t

What do I need to tell him, do I simply say I need another modem? I did a ping test on yahoo and did get a bunch of time outs. How am i suppose to know they did upgrades in the area and it ruin my modem? I called comcast and they say I have a strong signal coming to my modem and they did not see a problem.

Call Jim Kennedy directly. Tell him the time outs, tell him you ran the ping test for a couple of minutes. They usually run the test a total of 4 pings. Not for 2 minutes. Jim Kennedy will help you if you call him. Don't worry about what your comcast is telling you. Go directly to Jim Kennedy.

Should I just be able to go down and swapped out my modem since I am leasing it? Before I do that I want to run some test with out my router and pap2 adpater in place and see what happens. I think I will you Jim as my last resort.

you can try Jim as your last resort, or just call and fix the problem. Smile

I ran directly from the modem to the pc and the same timeouts.

It will take longer unless you call him. Your choice. Smile

Did you swap for a different brand or just a new modem?

What brand are you using successfully now?

Also,

I called Jim at the number above. I don't think he was too thrilled to have his number pasted in this forum. I'm hoping he'll be able to figure out what's going on though...
