Hey guys...just signed up with Vonage this past week. Switched over from another popular provider that begins with "AT"....mainly because of increasingly poor call quality and major echo issues (that, and no 7-digit dialing).

Anywho, I have a couple of Uniden 2.4GHz handsets, and the call quality actually seems much better with Vonage. However, every time I get a call, it's always displayed as 11 digits. This generally isn't a problem, except that my handsets either don't know how to break it down to x-xxx-xxx-xxxx format, or something with Vonage or the Linksys PAP2 is preventing it from showing up correctly. All I ever see is "xxxxxxxxxxx". The phones also allow me to specify my home area code so that when a call from that area code comes in, it displays only 7 digits. But...the "1" in front of it throws it off, and so it displays 11 digits no matter what. It's very frustrating, especially since most people call me from their cell phone, and since they all have the same provider, the numbers are all very similar. It takes me roughly 5 seconds after it shows up on the phone to even figure out who the heck is calling me.

Has anyone else noticed this? How can it be solved? Are there (relatively) inexpensive phones out there that handle this gracefully? I'm not opposed to buying new phones...these are a couple years old anyhow.

On a side note, I really miss my online phone book, where I could specify exactly how peoples' names showed up on my caller ID Sad ... I sincerely hope Vonage adds something like this in the near future.

I have a vtech 2.4 GHz set - I've discovered that if I store the number in the phone's listing using 11 digits (the way Vonage sends the info) the phone will display the stored name rather than the caller ID name.

Interesting...I'll have to take a look at those. Do you happen to know what the model number is?

Anyone know if any other brands do this? Having that feature would definitely make things easier for me.

I have a Uniden 2.4ghz system also and I am seeing exactly what you are seeing. I've also noticed with Vonage that 95% of the time I only get the caller's phone number on the caller ID and no name. Very frustrating. You can still call directly from the caller ID display with 11 numbers. What I've noticed so far is that with Vonage even dialing a local call with the 1 still completes the call. But I agree the way Vonage does caller ID is very frustrating.

vtech model 2650. I bought it a couple of years ago at Sam's. Another nice feature is that it was advertised as being "WiFi friendly" - it doesn't interfere with my wireless network (like my old Panasonc cordless did) even though it's a 2.4 GHz phone.

It seems that Vonage likes to put a 1 in front of any caller ID number that they get - including international incoming numbers. For a US number, since they take dialed numbers starting with 1 (or not), putting the 1 in front is OK - maybe even good.

On the other hand, if you get a call at a Vonage US number from the UK, the caller ID reads 144xxxxxxx instead of +144xxxxxx (valid from anywhere - with the + as the equivalent of 011) or 01144xxxxxx, which is valid from the US. With the 1 in front of the 44, you can't even return the call by using the phone's features, since Vonage does not recognize the outbound dialed number that they sent as caller ID.
