I hate making first posts in a forum be a cry for help, but I am desperate to have this issue resolved as my wife is insisting we drop Vonage because of this. Basically, whenever we make a call or someone calls us, our internet connection drops. Essentially, the router loses the signal, and the phone adapter light turns off. I have to rest my modem and router to get it to work again. Its a Linksys WRT54GP2 router. Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty strange. Is there a cordless phone involved here? 2.4 GHz cordless phones cause all kinds of weird happenings with wireless routers.

I thought about that, since the phone by the router IS 2.4...but I plugged in a standard corded phone and the same thing happens.

I did figure out something rather interesting. I am an avid participant in the concert bootleg online world and usually am either seeding or leeching shows off of several closed bittorrent trackers for these bootlegs. I noticed that when I wasn't downloading via bittorrent that I could stay connected for upwards of 20 minutes. But as soon as I turned on bittorrent, immediately my connection is dropped and I have to reboot the modem and then the router to regain my signal. So this may have to do with my cable company recently upgrading its backbone network and the kinks are still not ironed out yet. Perhaps they freak out that several connections at once are leaving my PC at the same time and shut off the link. Who knows? I welcome any other ideas/recommendations you all might have.

Now we have 2 issues. I'd remove that cordless phone completely so that there's no question of it causing the problem. As for the Bittorrent issue, that's real problem. Do a search on bittorrent and focus on the discussions by Nate Hoy. It's known that the Vonage adapters can't handle that kind of load very well.

I followed your advice and did the search for NateHoy and bittorrent and found out almost immediately that I needed to disable MAC Cloning. I messed with the settings a few weeks ago and I think I might have enabled MAC Cloning, so I guess that's why it only started happening recently. Once I disabled cloning, the issue cleared itself...even with bittorrent going. Then I also went in and set QoS to favor Voip and noticed an immediate difference in call quality. How have I lasted a year with this service NOT knowing how to tweak this properly?

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I'm glad it worked out, even if my suggestion only helped accidentally. I think that's called serendipity.
