Post subject: Primaryline, DSL and Vonage
I am a bit confused. I currently have a landline through which my DSL service is provided. It has always been my understanding that in order to have DSL you need a working line (SBC) or basic telephone service for the DSL to work. If I make the switch to
Vonage
, get a new number and have my current number disconnected, will my DSL still work? Does
Vonage
become my new phone service provider? Or more simply, my basic phone service costs about $30/month (not including dsl service) If I switch to
Vonage
, will I still need to pay for my basic telephone service (SBC) to keep my "line" active? Is
Vonage
just a service above and beyond my normal landline telephone service?

You asked a simple question, I have a normal telephone number/line and DSL service from BellSouth, can I keep my DSL and move /portthis telephone number to
Vonage
.
The simple answer is: NO
BellSouth does not officially offer what is known as 'naked DSL' though Qwest officially does (in their region) and Verizon has admited they will offer it as well. Unfortunately, this doesn't help you.
You could call BellSouth and asked them pointedly whether they would provide you 'naked DSL' and see what type of response you'd get. BellSouth is very conservative so I have my doubts.
