Here's my plan... I'm going to start my own ISP, the service of which you can sign up over telephone. I'll do my best to keep customers happy, I really will. I'll advertise lower costs for same great speeds and reliability.
But say if a customer wants to cancel their service, I'll require them to do it--not through the medium which they used to get the service in the first place (i.e. telephone)--but rather the service I provide: online. This way, when a user gets shotty (or no) Internet access, they'll have no way of cancelling it!
I guess Vonage had the same idea:
- You sign up through the Internet.
- Your service goes down, and yet you're uninterested in continuing it anyway.
- You go back to the Internet, where you signed up, to cancel... but find that cancellation must be done over the phone (a luxury you do not have working).
That's just stupid policy in my opinion. I didn't know this when I signed up, so maybe prospective customers might read this and take that into consideration.
Anyway, as far as my situation goes... anyone know of how to cancel a Vonage subscription sans phone? I contacted Vonage via e-mail a few days ago, still waiting for their response, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone else has ran into this problem too. |

You can do it via standard business protocol -- send a certified, return-receipt letter via USPS to Vonage with your account #, phone #, contact info, and your desire to cancel. |
