I am on try two of a vonage number port from verizon. The first one failed.
I got a confirm call on my Vonage line from Vonage to test the line. I can call from my cell phone(verizon wireless) and it rings on the Vonage line as expected. Also when someone calls from a non Verizon landline it rings as expected on the Vonage line.
However in my town when someone calls using Verizon (former carrier) my old phone line rings not Vonage.
Does this behavior normally go away once the Verizon line is finally disconnected? |

I switched from Comcast to Vonage and after the transfer started to go through anyone who had Comcast would still ring on the Comcast line everyone else got busy signals or just got disconnected. |

My official LNP switch was 5/17/06. Since I got the official word the switch was completed a portion of my calls to not come through. The phone rings, I pick it up and answer, but no one is there. The callers have reported that the line rings and rings or are told be recording that the line is not available...
I call Vonage support for a test and was told that areas of CA and WA "are experiencing problems". The problem "is being worked on". No date of repair can be given.
Customer support claimed that I could have seen the problem if I logged in to my Vonage dashboard and read the service announcement. uh right... I do that each day... While on the phone I checked my dashboard and there are no service announcements...
We're screwed until they fix the problem. I don't know why they can do a better job in this regard. It is not acceptable. |

When did you switch and does this unwanted behavior continue to happen? Or did it stop after a period of time? |

As of April 14th Comcast dropped the line completely and have not been able to receive any calls through Comcast or Vonage using my old number.
If Vonage ever fixes the porting problem I will have an answer for you. As of now my old phone number is completely useless and it looks as if I may loose it altogether.
You can see my trouble log here http://www.netadventures.biz/vonagetestimonials.htm

Some forward progress.
My old Verizon line still rings through with local Verizon calls. Basically Verizon calls internal to my home state route to my old phone line, any other calls on non-Verizon providers & out of state Verizon lines route to Vonage as expected.
I got proactive and called Verizon. Verizon stated that Vonage ported my telephone # however Vonage did not send the proper letter to request a disconnect so it remains active to a degree. Interestly when Verizon called me back on the port issue it rang on Vonage albiet out of state.
Verizon stated Vonage needs to send a letter to disconnect the service effective my date of transfer(week ago). I called Vonage and after about 1hr with three reps they are doing so. Vonage customer service tries and is friendly but is not to the level of professionalism of Verizon.
Anyway see how it goes. |

Miracles do happen. I finally got my number working today after not being able to receive calls for 43 days.
My advice is to ask to speak to the escalation dept and keep bugging them and if that fails call the Number Portability Dept at 866-496-6359 9am-5pm EST.
Now to see how hard it is to get Vonage to release my number so I can transfer it to a new company.
I will continue to update my adventures on my site. Stay tuned for further developments. |

as noted, miracles do happen. ...that or Vonage is getting better.
I was receiving calls from everyone outside the Qwest network (which was my previous provider), but calls within Qwest would ring and when we answered, nobody was on the other end. Callers would tell us the line would ring and ring and ring (even though we appartenly answered).
About 48 to 72 hours after the official LNP change, the Qwest calls were coming through with all other. Problem gone. I'm happy with my Vonage accounts.
I got my original Vonage number for business calls a year and a half ago. Was only unhappy with it while I had an unreliable DSL line. Since I switched to cable I've had nearly flawless service. |
