Still not yet received my Vonage VOIP box, but anxiously awaiting its arrival. In the meantime, I have been thinking about all possible scenarios that might provide hiccups.

I may be moving out of province (Canada) and will likely want to take my Vonage service and box with me. I think it's a pretty cool feature that you can retain the same phone number. However, I will be in another area code. Wouldn't my new neighbor in the new location have to call long distance from a landline then to call me on my old Vonage number?

Yes, that is correct. If the call to your old number is a long distance call from your current location, it will be a long distance call for your new neighbor. Have him also convert to Vonage, that way all calls will be free Smile

You can change your primary number to your soon to come new area code.
or
you can set up a virtual number in that area code.

hope your box comes before you move.

Vonage suggests getting a new "real" number in your new location and converting your old one to a virtual number. Your old friends can call in at local rates, ditto for people in your new area, and on the $30 plan you can call any of them at the same rate as much as you want.

Why not be the first on your block to collect the whole set!

I've got 4 area codes currently. Only about 800 or so left to go LOL.

I am such a hot shot with 4 area codes. I feel so cool. I hope nobody has more than me yet or I will have to add more. Very Happy

I think you should make it your goal to get a 212, that'd be the true test of area code status Wink
