Has anyone had any success using a wireless broadband internet connection? I am intereested in the service but concerned about the equipment compatibility. My connection is usb, not ethernet. Is there a usb to ethernet router available? |

If your only choice is USB you could use your computer as a router. Set up some kind of internet connection sharing. Winroute is all so a good program for NAT (Network Address Trans;ation). The down side to doing this is that your computer has to be on to work.
I haven't seem a router with a USB input for a router. It maybe out there, but I just haven't seen it. |

My situation is that in the community where I live there is only one high speed solution. It is a wireless set-up that connects to the pc via a usb cable. The small desktop antenna has no other ports.
My computer however has an ethernet card. If the computer is on then the connection should be able to be made, correct?
I do not have the high speed connection to play with and am trying to do all of the homework prior to the install of both the wireless broadband and the vonage system.
If for optimum operation I need to have an ethernet feed to a router, and then split up the bandwidth from there, then that is what I have to do.
If I then plug in the vonage equipment can I plug the adapter into the wall and make all the phone jacks in my house live for vonage operation? I realize I will have to first remove the external phone feed from the landline provider. |

I am currenty using winroute now for my NAT. The phone work just as well through winroute as it does with a real IP. |

Are there any other costs associated with the use of this service?
Any connection fees, taxes, line charges or anything? I don't want any surpises on the bill. Is it truly just 39.99 flat? |

I am not as computer literate as soom of you seem. But I have a wireless service for connecting to the internet called Ricochet. It picks up the internet from the air waves. It is plugged into my computer via a usb port. Is this the same kind of connection ya'll are referring to. And if so, does that mean I need to be connecting to my ethernet card some how to be able to make Vonage work? |

My ISP is also wireless and I tried using Vonage but the calls keep dropping or breaking up. As far as how your PC is connected via USB, you would need to also have a ethernet card and have your PC set up as a gateway. That's the only way that I know of, but I would not even bother trying because once you do get it working you are going to experience very poor communications. Not because you have to be set up at a gateway but because of the whole compatabilty with wireless isp and VOIP.
If there is someone out there who had wireless ISP and Vonage then please tell what you do to make it work, |
