I had lately send the Vaonage adapter to India (the one which was working fine in US).

we have BSNL DSL (256 KB) connection.

We tried hooking the adapter as

BSNL Modem --> Vonage Adapter (Linksys RT31P2) --> PC and Phone on respective ports.

After we powered it on..it had blinking lightsfor sometime and then the ethernet light became solid where as the internet light was blinking.

Neither Internet nor Phone works. (Internet works fine if I connect it directly through BSNL Modem)

We tried going to the http://192.168.15.1 to change the settings but it does notlet us go there either.

Can anyone suggest the wayout?

Hi,

You might check the following :

Have you checked the IP address for the modem and/or the ethernet adapter? Is it http://192.168.15.1 or something different? You can find out by typing ipconfig/all at the C: prompt.

Also following is imp. while setting up Vonage. Vonage voice quality is good with BSNL 256 plan. The only thing is this plans being limited plans (upload/download) you might keep track of the BSNL bill.

1) Router has to be PPPOE setting. You might have to take BSNL support for this.
2) Always On
3) The IP address for the RT31P2 should be different than the IP address for the modem. I had PAP2 and it worked fine when I changed the IP address, Gateway IP & subnet mask.

Let me know if you could get Vonage working.

Thanks
Anu

I am trying to get Vonage Adapter to work at India with Tata Indicom at my parents. I believe I have read through all the posts in this forum on this subject. Having problems still, hope some one can help. Its hard to get folks back home to follow the technical stuff from the US. Spent a day and a half, all my night awake...still no luck. Setup is like this.

1. MODEM (Has one Ethernet out line)

2. Xavi Bridge Router- x7721r (Has one Ethernet out line)

3. A new Netgear Switch 5ports (5 Ethernet ports)

4. PC connected to above Netgear Switch

5. Vonage Adapter connected to Netgear switch

PC has connection Icon to Tata Indicom with user ID and password.
Only on connection through this icon, can one access internet.

Icon Connection properties are:-
Connection to VSNL_xxxxx properties

Device Type: isdn
Server Type: PPP
Authentication: PAP
Server IP: 202.xx.xxx.xx
Client IP: assigned each time, changes
VIA Compatible Fast Ethernet Adapter
Phone#: VSNL_xxxxG3

IP Address of Bridge/Router: 192.168.1.1 (Default) Gateway
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Xavi bridge/router IP is 192.168.1.1 I can logon to its Admin page and see all the settings that Tata Indicom have set for this ADSL Bridge/Router.

e.g. VPI 0,
VCI 32,
QOS:
UBR,
PCR: 2000
SCR:0 MBS:0
Encapsulation: LLL
Connection Type: RFC 1483 BRIDGE
Packet Filter: All

It seems configured as a BRIDGE and not as Router.
Has both capabilities though.

DNS Server IP: 202.x.xxx.x and
202.x.xxx.x

I went through the steps of checking the Linksys PAP2 adapter, IP, gateway etc and finally set it as static IP, static gateway and now both POWER and ETHERNET LEDs are blue glowing. But LINE1 is not on. Static IP I set was 192.168.1.xxx, Gateway set same as 192.168.1.1 as the IPCONFIG from command prompt showed.

Possible Next Steps:
1. Read that one can do port forwarding for Vonage 5060 - 5061 for Line1 in Linksys manual.

2. Also read that one can turn the router to not require user id / login and remain connected always. Do not know how to do this with this modem. Does any one know looking at the link below?

Here is a different Bridge/Router by one model number, but is almost similar interface to what we have.

http://xavisupport.guideband.net/Manual_X7722r_Eng%20%20(02082004).pdf

3. Vonage had a help page that has a step to just connect the PC to the Linksys PAP2 adapter and then from Internet Explorer type 192.168.15.1. Then on the Linksys Adapter status page, go and set the PPPOE user ID and password that Tata Indicom requires and save. However it said if you adapter is NOT behind a router, then follow this step. I guess since the router is setup as a BRIDGE, I could follow this step.

4. Setup MODEM, then BRIDGE, THEN ROUTER/BRIDGE and PC. Connect Linksys PAP2 to BRIDGE before router. Does this work.

Any ideas? Please help.

Start a new post and be SPECIFIC to the problem you're having, not "Doesn't work in India.". Thanks!

Ok SPECIFIC issue is my Vonage adapter does not seem to work even after the installation/config steps indicated with Tata Indicom broadband service.....

LINE 1 phone LED lights are not ON. Also No dial tone.

Power LED is bright BLUE.
Ethernet LED is bright BLUE.

To get dial tone, phone keypad step 80# and hangup of phone as indicated in Linksys manual causes msg - Invalid Option.

Linksys adapter was rebooted twice...also rebooted the Modem, Router and Linksys adapter in proper sequence w/time lag 1 min.

Hi,

While doing the Chapter 4 settings for PAP2. Try to hang up the phone each time after you input and save the IP address, gateway ip & subnet mask.

I had the same problem but I did use the hard boot way to save the changes I make to the PAP2. Wait for 5 min after each input/save of the 3 things mentioned above.

Also why do you need the Xavi & the Neatgear both? It might be complicating the network. I am not very techy but probably the ip address for all should be different for everthing in the network.

my network was simple. BSNL modem>>> PC to USB>>> PAP2 to Ethernet. Try to make it simple as much as possible.

I am not sure about Tata Indicom but it definately works good with BSNL.

Thanks
Anu

Thanks Anu. BTW. made it work finally. The Netgear Switch w/5 ethernet ports is connected to the ancient Router because router had only one Ethernet port on the back that was connected to the PC. Since I want to connect PAP2 Linksys adapter, I needed another ethernet connection. Since router config is tougher for lay person, I went for Switch with no s/w or config needed. Anyway the solution turned out to be new PPPoE over ethernet setup on the router/bridge and port fowarding as described in chapter 4 of manual using Advanced Settings-NAPT. You can find out the setting you need by looking at the router existing connection through IE http://192.168.1.1

PAP2 LEDs Indicator
http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=1122

BTW: PAP2 is not a router like the newer brand adapters from Linksys that have wireless and phone adapter capabilities. Hence 192.168.15.1 pppoe setup will not work for PAP2 models. You need to set it up on your routers.

Those fixing a new wireless router to existing router, you would just need to setup pppoe on your new router with user id/pwd. Try to find the manual for your router on the web and follow the instructions. HTH

HI

Need help!

HELP HELP HELP!!!!

I have read from several experts' comments that they were successfully able to connect Vonage router for BSNL DSL.

I need some information for the same.

I believe BSNL would be setup for PPPoE. BSNL would have assigned an ip 0f 192.168.1.xxx with 192.168.1.1 as gateway. Everything works fine with this ip and with the DNS provided by them.

But, what settings do we need to to make in the router to get to the internet connection.

I tried the following: Please correct me if I am wrong.

Connection Type = PPPoE
username:xxxxxxxx@sancharnet.in or xxxxxx@dataone.in
Paswwd:

DHCP-Enabled
StartIP = 192.168.15.105

On the PC DHCL is enabled.

After all the above setup, the Status page on the router says connecting, but never get connected. I get the error message as "Authentication failed". But, I am able to get to my e-mail using the same e-mail address and password.

Please let me how it should be set up.

I too facing the same problem. My ISP provider is Airtel (Touchtel), 128kbps and using Cyberoam Application to logon. To Access internet I need logon using the application and I should keep the session alive to use the Internet & Vonage working.

If I shutdown my Laptop with out logoff from the application, after 15 min. or so the session is going dead. I need to logon again to use
Vonage phone or Internet.

Is there any way to keep my session alive?

My setup is:
Internet LAN cable -> Belkin wireless router -> Vonage Adaptor & PC.
I am using static IP.

Thanks
Ashok

[quote="Lostwarior"]I had the same problem. I had SIFY DSL Connection but fed directly through RJ45 cable (i.e without Modem). I edited my router with same settings, called the SIFY local provider, informed him to register my router's MAC address instead of my workstation's.

The only problem with SIFY connection is, the workstation should be turned on whenever we need to use Voip, so that their dial-in application is used to authenticate & keep the session alive.
