Hi folks, another problem has cropped up since I installed this system...seems that other phones on the same line in the house do not work.......I know this because my satellite television receiver can't 'call out' suddenly....

Any ideas welcomed.

Thanks

Rick

Do you have your Vonage adapter connected to your home phone wiring? If you don't connect it to your home phone wiring, the only phone that will work will be the one plugged into your Vonage adapter. Also, there are known issues with things like satellite receivers working with Vonage. There are "tricks" you can do to get it working.

A little more info about your setup and how you have your Vonage connected would be helpful in assisting you.

Remove the DSL filter and see what happens. Why are you using it?

They are required for DSL service?

Without it there is alot of static on the line...it wouldnt block the dial tone though...

Do you have dry line DSL (also referred to as naked DSL) which doesn't require any landline phone service with your phone company, or do you still have basic landline service from your phone company in addition to your DSL? I would assume you still have some type of at least basic landline phone service from your phone company, as most phone companies are still requiring it to get DSL service with them.

It's going to be a little difficult getting Vonage to work on the jacks throughout your house since you have DSL. Normally to get Vonage working on all the jacks in your house you would go outside your house and disconnect the outside wiring from the inside wiring at the Network Interface Device (NID), and then connect your Vonage device to one of the phone jacks inside the house. If you disconnect outside it will most likely cut off your DSL, so you probably won't want to do this.

The only way to get Vonage service through your entire house is to connect your Vonage device to one of the phone jacks in your house. If you're connecting your Vonage device to one of the phone jacks in your house while there's DSL and possibly still landline service from your local phone company, you're lucky you didn't short-circuit something.

No, the regular phone service is definitely off. There is no dialtone at all if the computer is down.

This doesnt make sense. You need broadband internet for this to work, and you're tlling me I can't run DSL and Vonage at the same time?? Eek

The only way to get Vonage throughout the house is to connect the Vonage device (motorola vt2442??) to one of the phone jacks in the house?

How else could you get the service if you're not connected to a phone jack?

I'm sorry, but that just doesn't make sense.

I take it that Vonage is more geared to the cable internet rather than the DSL. They should mention this up front.

If my regular land line still worked, I would've tossed the Vonage crap in the trash already, but as it stands, I would have no phone service at all.

I think someone dropped the ball.

No offense to you, I know you're only trying to help and I thank you.

Until you figure out the cause of you line issues you can plug a cordless or corded phone into the Vonage TA for service.

Vonage service works..in the one jack where the motorola vt2442 is plugged in. I get nothing in the other jacks.

Thanks

This link may answer some of the questions you have about DSL. It appears the your DSL is only wired to the jack you currently getting Vonage service on. Your options appear to be.

1.have your dsl provider come out and re-wire all your phone jacks or
2.install a punchdown board to wire all phone jacks to enable them to use Vonage.

I'm not an expert but I don;t know if it's worth it.
