Post subject: Fax busy signal
I have 4
Vonage
lines using 3 RT31P2 adapters one of which I am using both lines. I have an HP 7210 so I am using one of the lines for both fax and voice. I have the line coming from the RT31P2 going to a splitter/adapter. One of the two lines coming from the splitter goes to the fax machine and the other line to a wall jack so that the other phones in the house will ring.
The problem I am having is that when I connect the cord to the wall jack the line goes busy. ( the light on the RT31P2 blinks and you go straight to voicemail when you call the number.
All the phone company stuff is disconnected at the gray box. Anyone have any ideas why the line goes to busy when I connect to the wall jack.
Thanks
a-dhold

sounds like you have a short..
if you skip the y adapter and plug the same phone cord from the ata to the wall jack do the phones work?
try a second phone cord to see if the short is in the 1st cable you were using otherwise it would seam that you have a short somewhere in the home phone wiring
try going from the ata to the fax if that same cord works for both then maybe the y adapter is bad

Right. Also try unplugging everything that you have plugged into the house jacks. The problem may be something as simple as a phone that's not quite on-hook. If that clears up the problem, plug things back in until the problem comes back (or better yet, doesn't come back).
