PostPosted: Tue May 16, 2006 3:28 pm    Post subject: WRTP54G VTech IP8100-2 no dial tone; blinking yellow light Reply with quote Back to top

Location: Boca Raton, Florida
ISP: Adelphia Power Link -Cable connection (obviously)
Modem: RCA Model #: DCM 315R
Vonage adapters: Linksys WRTP54G and VTech IP 8100-2
My Issue: Setup #1 - the VTech won't work off of the router (blinking yellow light, no dial tone) but the router and everything else works fine and Setup #2 - No internet connection and no other equipment (i.e. reg. phone & fax) plugged into the router works off of the VTech, but the VTech works fine. What am I doing wrong???

I am a new Vonage customer, about 2 months now. When I first signed up the only Vonage equipment I had was the VTech IP 8100-2. I had no problems with my Vonage service. I recently purchased the Linksys WRTP54G Router so I can connect regular telephones and a fax machine. I have tried two different setup configurations which I will try to explain below (I am a layperson where computers are concerned, but I'll do my best here):

Setup #1 - Cable Modem>(blue E. cable to "internet" port)WRTP54G (I have a regular telephone line and fax connected to the router and they both work fine)>(yellow E. cable into WAN port)VTech

Setup #2 - Cable Modem>(blue E. cable into WAN)VTech>(yellow E. cable into "internet" port)WRTP54G

With both setup configurations I have the PC cable connected to one of my ports on the router. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Vonage customer service is not helpful.
Thank You!

if you take out the wrtp and put things how you had it before, does the 8100 work? Vonage is particular about device provisioning and whatnot, so since you don't specify if you bought more lines or if you transferred the line from the 8100 to the wrtp...
in other words, you can't have one phone number on the 8100 and the same phone number on the wrtp.

Yes, they both work fine by themselves it is when I try connecting them to each other that I run into problems...so what you are saying is that I need to have seperate numbers (i.e. a dedicated fax number and a seperate number for telephone calls) for each device I use with Vonage? Why didn't customer service tell me that when I called them about the problem??? Well, it makes sense what you are saying and I think you are right. It seems like there is some sort of language barrier or lack of knowledge (probably due to outsourcing..?) with Vonage customer service so I have been frustrated about this situation. I really appreciate the help, thank you so much for the fast reply!! I will definately recommend your forum to all who have Vonage. Thanks again!

They probably didn't tell you because it wasn't listed in the script.
My very first problem with Vonage was due to the fact they assigned me a phone number that had been assigned to someone else. Do you think I could convince Abdul Patel to give me another phone number? He actually kept telling me over and over that the problem was not listed in front of him. And since I could make calls I should be happy and keep the number that was assigned to me and someone else. Needless to say I now bypass India and speak with New Jersey if I have any problems.
