Post subject: windows for workgroups and vonage issue
I have the the following set up. cable modem, linksys wired 4 port router
with 3pcs's attached 1.to
Vonage
phone adpater/ pc with windows Xp pro and 2 and 3 others running w98
When I have try to view workgroups from the windows pro machine which is behind the
Vonage
adpater I can't see the other w98 machines which are in the same workgroup as I'm trying to share a printer attached to one of the w98 machines. When I take out the
Vonage
adpater I can see the xp machine in the workgroup from netwoprk neighborhood on bothw98 machines but I still can't see the 2 w98 machines in the workgroup from the xp machine. Also when I have the
Vonage
adapater in line in front of the xp machine ipconfig on the xp machine gives 192.168.102.100 I can't ping that address or any of the other busy
ones like
www.cnn.com.
Any help would be appreciated

Since your PC behind the
Vonage
adapter shows that particular address, it's obvious the DHCP is enabled on the adapter. Your linksys router probably is giving out addresses in the 192.168.1.x range. All your PC's need to be in the same subnet in order to see each other. I suggest you turn off DHCP on the
Vonage
adapter (which puts it in pass-through mode) this way the PC behind the
Vonage
adapter will get it's address from your Linksys router and be in the same subnet as the rest of your PC's hooked up to it. BTW, cnn.com will not accept ping requests. Try another web site.
