WIth allot of perserverence and some Blessings from the Almighty, I have gotten my HAI Omni System (Security System) to work with Vonage and be able to send the appropriate alarm signal to my monitoring station. Here is what I did to get it to work:

1) Set Dead Line Detect to DISABLED (0)
2) Set Pickup after hangup to NO
3) Set Communicator Type to Option 1 - 1400

You can do this if you have the setup code for your system. Which in my opinion you should demand for the system YOU bought. You need to log in with the setup password and go to the installer menu and then MISC for steps 1&2 above and DCM for step 3 above. I hope this helps someone out there. For now, it has worked.

I know this will probable be removed but I do work for an alarm company and have to warn anyone with an alarm that you will have lots of trouble getting the system to work over Vontage. You will have to look at cell backup as an option. Yes we were able to get a few alarms to work on these type of Voip phone service providers but customers usually call back still haveing problems. The alarm communicates sometimes and not others. Very scary when you could have your life on the line. Yes the someone else mentioned SIA but it would probable work better with SIA but thats what we do to most of them and they still have problems and most don't work at all with SIA. Please do not depend on this service to communicate alarm signals.

All questions about reliability aside, I have Vonage service with Brinks using their POTS based modem for dial out and can attest that it works. My problem was due to the fact that Brinks wires their connection on outside of the home in the telco's wiring box. Even though I followed the directions to enable Vonage all over the interior of my home, Brinks was connected elsewhere. In summary, I purchased a telephone wire-tracer (tone generator), traced out the wires for both the main line in my home and the Brinks modem and spliced them together.

If your setup is like mine, in the Brinks box there will likely be a small surface-mount telephone jack:

Unplug the telephone cable and plug in a standard telephone (keep it simple, don't use a cordless phone) into that jack. If you have dial tone then you might call Vonage for help with sorting out the problem with the modem dialing out. In my case, I had no dialtone, the steps I took are below. Sorry for the brevity but I didn't want to write a book.

I plugged the tone-generator into that box and then used the tone-generator's probe to find the tone on the wiring in my telephone box.

Once you sort out which is the alarm wiring, you may want to discretely mark it so you can remember what it is.

Then, move the tone generator to one of your (working) telephone jacks. Then go back to the telco box and find which wires go back into your home.

Lastly, join the wires you marked earlier to the ones that correspond to your inside wiring with some sort of telephone splice/tap.

Go back to your Brinks box and plug your phone back in to test that it now has dial tone.

Once you have dial tone, you can start a manual test of the system with the options button. HINT: you can listen in on an extension while the modem starts the dial-out. It will sound like a fax machine making a call out. I recommend you mute your phone so that you don't introduce noise into the connection.

Good luck!
