I've already posted a problem with the voice quality on Vonage if I try to connect the phone adaptor to the router. Seems that nobody can answer that question. So, before I do the 14 day cancellation and get my money back, can anybody help withthis?
If I connect the phone adaptor directly into the modem, the audio qualioty is fine. Thing is, I only have one connection point on the modem so I can't leave the phone adaptor permanently connected.
Is there a way to turn the one ethernet port on the modem into 2 by way of an adaptor? If so, will this give any performance issues?
Thanks. |

if your using the pap2 adaptor it only has the one ethernet port on it and thats to connect it to the modem
maybe you should contact vonage and ask them to send you the RT31P2 adaptor as it has 3 ethernet ports available on it to connect your computer to.
seems to me you have the wrong adaptor for your setup

As Gordy says, the RT31P2 adaptor is preferable to putting a switch in front of the PAP2 adapeter since this means your PC is able to steal bandwidth that Vonage needs, hence the poor audio quality. The RT31P2 uses QOS (Quality of Service) technology that means Vonage gets what it needs first and only if bandwidth is free does it go to your PC. |

Finally got through to tech support. Now that I have gotten through the quality of the service was pretty good. They are sending me one of the adpatprs that is also a router. Problem is with my Belkin Pre N router. |

I am not an expert but I believe the router you have bought will connect directly to the modem with your PC connecting to the modem via the router. The phone you are using for VOIP will also connect to one of the router ports. If in doubt, presumably the router came with instructions? If not, whether you are using Vonage or not, the Vonage site will have the connectivity instructions for your telephone adaptor / router. |
