Vonage instructions for 2 routers direct you to put the Linksys WRTP54G behind the existing router (in my case a Netgear WGR614) and to plug the device that was displaced by the Linksys into the Linksys. (although both are wireless routers, I use wired connections entirely). I followed these instructions and moved my networked printer (HP 2610xi) from the Netgear to the Linksys. Telephone works fine but printer can not be found. I realize the Linksys created a separate LAN with a new IP address. The printer now has an IP address linked to the Linksys's DNS. Can this be solved by using a crossover cable between the two routers, or by changing one or more IP addresses? Thanks for any help hvb |

If you have a vacant port on the WGR614, it would be better to move the printer back there, Vonage instructions notwithstanding. If not, you can set the WRTP54G up in bridge mode. You can read more about that in Nate Hoy's writings here. To be clear, Nate doesn't recommend this mode, but you may want to read what he says and try it. Briefly, you disable DHCP and DNS on the WRTP54G and plug it into the WGR614 using the 54's LAN port rather than the WAN port. Then you run another cable from a second LAN port on the 54 to its own WAN port. The printer plugs into a third 54 LAN port. |
