Hi -
After two days of constant phone calls trying to troubleshoot my PAP2 with Vonage, I'm out of options. I have great bandwidth and a brand new router. The PAP2 works fine if it's direclty connected to the cable modem. The minute you put it behind the new router I have, even in the DMZ, call chops up into nice little bits. Vonage has tried tons of troubleshooting with me but is basically throwing up their hands, telling me to get a new router. Not doing that. It's brand new and works fine for everything else.
So....if one could go out and buy whatever phone adapter they wanted, which one should I get?
Thanks in advance.

I just joined up recently and have been playing around with set-ups and settings trying to get my quality to the best it can be. I'm using Shaw cable with a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router and Vonage supplied me with a Motorola VT2442. I have the Motorola hooked into the house phone wiring and it's not too bad. My biggest problem is my 2.4Ghz phones competing with my Linksys wireless router (going to get either 900Mhz orr 5Ghz phones). My hard-wired phone is great. I have the VT2442 behind the Linksys with the Linksys LAN port to the Motorola WAN port only |

what type of router do you have?
i'm assuming you've tried changing your QoS settings or tried to update the firmware. that's what did the trick for me with my linksys. |

If you have a Linksys WRT54GX4, there was a problem with the firewall in the firmware that would cause the call to be choppy. If you turn on the DoS log you will see that packets are being dropped. The newer firmware version 1.00.15 fixed this but I needed to do a hard reset of the router after performing the upgrade for the change to work for me. They have a newer version 1.00.17 that I haven't used yet so I don't know if the hard reset or not is needed. If you have a GX4 the easy way to test this is to either turn off the firewall on the Security or to turn on the DoS log to see the things getting dropped. |
