What happens when a gov official, but blames it on a lobbi, doesn't like V because he has stock in C or ATT. Next thing ya know the NSA finds that 90% of terrror calls are made from people using V. So a committee and a head bobber decide that using V is illegal to put them out of bus. They had to leak that they new about the calls so they could legally shut down the business. Imagine if you will it wasn't V. But any other company in the US.

I would hope, and would be more than likely, that the SEC and the Justice Dept would take a great big P on him. Very Happy

When dumb crap threads like this come up, I always wonder how many of these people would be standing on their desks and screaming if there was a DEMOCRAT in the White House...

Gotta love the state of the country, where something as important as security can be reduced to political theater. "Damn Chuck - we done took back political control. Too bad about all them people dying...at least they were mostly stupid Republicans from the midwest and not our people."

Waiting for the links to politically biased blogs (either side) to show up...

The law that allows the feds to do this was signed back in 1993, by Bill Clinton. A democrat president. The people who are now coming out against the law didn't say a peep about it when the executive order was signed by ole BJ.

the NSA analyzes the calling data...numbers dialed, duration and so forth...to detect any patterns that could lead to terrorist activity. Sort of like credit card companies tracking your spending patterns to search for fraud.

And the very people that have a problem with this, then turn around and have no problem using a Kroger "Plus" card.

With all due respect to the various other posts, I think those who defend this are missing the point.

I don't do drugs, am not a criminal, but I can tell you there are lots of people I wouldn't like to see my phone records. Are you looking for a new job? Maybe you'd prefer your current boss not to find out. Cheating on your girlfriend? Bad, perhaps, but none of the government's business.

With a program like this in place, how can we be sure our private lives stay private? Do you know who gets to see these records, and who they're going to tell about them? Do we know whether the government is using this data to defend against terrorists, or to attack its political enemies? How can we know? - the government simply waves the 9/11 flag at anyone who asks.

The right way to trust the government is to have rules about what the government gets to see, and have a separation of powers that makes sure that one branch of goverment doesn't simply get to do whatever it wants.

I'm not too worried about Vonage giving this info to the NSA. They can't even keep track of their own adapter MAC addresses, let alone all of the phone calls we make.

Try this simple test:

1) Go to www.vonage.com
2) Enter your username and password
3) Click on Activity.

Look at that - *all* of your phone calls, inbound and outbound. Why, they seem to do quite well at keeping track of your phone calls.

By the way, being a patriot requires a lot more than sticking a flag icon after your post.

And before you make comments like that dickhead, maybe you sure check my username, and my post you quoted. I HAVE served this country overseas, in the line of fire, and came back. To this day I serve as a civilian with the Navy. Before you open your mouth, read what your replying to, idiot.

Yeah, that's it, calling someone a dickhead and an idiot makes you a patriot. I don't give a damn when, where or how you served sailor, your thinking is what I question, and I fought in our military (Navy, in fact) for THAT right. Your little flag icon doesn't make you a patriot, nor does your service. What makes a patriot is an understanding of the rights and priviliges that are granted to citizens of this nation by the Constitution and a willingness to protect them. So don't expect me to give you a pass before I open my mouth. I'll exercise my freedom of speech as I see fit, no matter what childish names you call me.
