It is not right to use someone elses WiFi account to run your
vonage
line on or otherwise something on all the time.
At some point your enighbor MAY realize what is going on - cant you see it now - he takes a look at his network and sees an internal ip or computer he doesnt recognize
"Why are there two ips connected when we only have one laptop?" and line goes off-line OR more likely
You are on the
vonage
line taking or making a very important call when either 1) power goes off - 2) He reboots 3) something else that makes his wireless router go off-line either temporarily or permanently.
Moral (hmm do morals count here) is that this connection is not guaranteed to be there. Just something to think about.

i know that my computers can get on his network fine, but how am i supppossed to run my
vonage
off it since I have to have an ethernet port to plug the phone adapter into.
i've heard of using a router to bridge it....is that just a rumor, and if not, is it hard to do? if this is possible i may not even need to get DSL, i hate dsl, just to get dsl i have to get a land line through the phone co too. And than they add all that bull$ hit extra fees and huge $50+ installation/activation fee. just ridiculous.
Does the term "Theft of Service" mean anything to you?
if the wifi is not firewalled or protected, then it's not theft of service. that's the LAW!

You are so dead wrong. Using your neighbors WIFI without their consent is theft of service and punishable by law. If your neighbor gives you permission to use his wifi he is breaking him terms of service with his ISP and may lose his service.
If you decide to setup a wireless connection for anonymous use and your ISP is OK with this service, such as FON that is legal.

Yeah, I tried to look it up, but I couldn't find anywhere that said if a network was unsecured then it was automatically free for use by all. In fact, it seems that most ISPs have specific language in their agreements that prohibit the use of the network they provide outside of the single residence where service has been installed. They call it (maybe you can guess) "Theft of Service". However, you seem to know much more about these laws than I do so, enlighten me, point me to the link that supports your statement that an unsecured network is open for access by anyone with a WiFi adapter.
