I had a date set for Verizon to take over my phone number. When that didn't happen Verizon said Vonage was refusing to release my phone number (which I've had for about 15 years before and, hopefully, after my Vonage experiment).
1. I've called Customer Care during the day: no menu item exists that allows one to talk to an individual about discontinuing service. 2. When I guessed at "0" as the way to get to a person under the menu item relating to discontinuing service, I got a recording saying no one was available to take my call, then a fast busy signal. 3. When I talked to the billing customer care people (in India) they transferred me to the number transfer department which, unfortunately, only handles transfer of numbers TO Vonage 4. I called very late last night and held on hold for almost 90 minutes before giving up (estimated wait time was 25 minutes). 5. Tried to use the email help facility but this is constrained to cancelling service, something I don't want to do until Verizon has given me another cutover date.
Help! I know Vonage is going public and doesn't need bad service cancellation stats, but this is ridiculous. |

I don't know if this is of any help, but here's the relevant section from the TOS.
"2.11 Number Transfer on Service Disconnection. Upon the disconnection of your Service, we may, in our sole and absolute discretion, release to your new service provider the telephone number that you ported (transferred or moved over) to us from your previous service provider and used in connection with your Service if:
* such new service provider is able to accept such number; * your account has been properly disconnected; * your account is completely current, including payment for all charges and applicable disconnection fees; and * you request the transfer upon disconnecting your account."
I'd be pretty reluctant to cancel without having the number port set up... |

Good luck. Been trying since April 22nd 2006 to get number that was from Comcast and was transfered to Vonage Transfered to SunRocket.
I keep getting "Sorry the customer information is incorrect" "You have to talk to our 3rd party partner".
Funny on how the information is now suddenly changed from what it is listed in my account information for Vonage.
Neither Vonage or their 3rd party Broadwing will fix the data or even tell me what data they have connected with my number.
They have already been reported to the FCC, BBB, and State Attorney Generals Office. Three months of their runaround is enough.
See the horror here: http://www.phazerelectronix.com/voipblog.html
UPDATE AUG 10TH Vonage has finally released my number to SunRocket. Now comes the fun of trying to cancel my Vonage account. |
