Vonage and Faxing

I have noticed a situation where faxing does not seem to work. I have cable modem, moto mta, linksys router, and hp g85 all-in-one fax.

If the mta is connects as follows: cable -> mta -> router then fax works fine. However, when I connect cable -> router -> mta the faxing fails.

The bad situation is, I seem to have better quality when the mta is behind the router - but faxing won't work.

Any idea?

I have been with Vonage for sometime now. When I first went with Vonage it woked ok sometimes other times not at all and others only partially.

Some of the things that I have done to fix the problem are as follows.

Changed to a Linksys BEFSR81 router. It has the QOS and allows me to put priority on traffic.

Changed my cable modem to a Motorola SB5100 Surfboard.

I also added a DSL filter, that you can buy at Radio Shack, to my phone lines.

I can't tell you which one made the biggest difference but my fax does work.

P.S. I also have a HP but I have the HP3100 all in one.

Hi, guys. I have a G85 all in one too. However, mine didn't work for sending faxes over, oh, 2 pages since I switched from the Cisco to the Motorola. And I have always had the Moto in front for QoS.

Well, yesterday I had a couple other oddities with my line and so I decided to email support and mention them as well as the continued fax problem. (I've tried the DSL filter, we've lowered the baud rate, I've turned the filter backwards, the works.)

I got a call yesterday from Mr. Herrara, I believe it was? He worked with me and by the time we were done, I was sending him a 14-page fax AND talking on the phone at the same time. Now, I've not had call to send another long fax, but this is the longest fax in the fax machine's log for months! I will refrain from discussing the other two problems here but post another message.
