I just signed up for VONAGE and sent it to my parents in India (chennai) They have DSL broadband from BSNL.
When they tried (with the help of a techie type neighbour) to set up the PPPoE with username password, it did not work.
Here are the steps they did:
After getting into the VT2442 Motorola router http/192.168,.15.1
then -
SETUP
WAN CONFIGURATION
TYPE set to PPPoE
Username - DSL username
Password - DSL password
hit SAVE
They got an error. The STATUS says no IP found, autoentication failed. (apparently suggesting that username and /or password is incorrect)
BUT when the PC is connected to the DSL modem directly with the same username/password it works. We checked this several times.
The VONAGE technical support here gave me the usual script and could not help much.
So what is the problem? Can anyone point me to the right resources? (especially anyone out there who has installed VONAGE in chennai with BSNL broadband)
Thanks,

You might get better responses by posting this in the VoIP forum rather than here in the hard wiring forum.
Did they change the setup type in the computer to DHCP and set the VT2442 as a DHCP server? After that, did they re-boot everything in the correct order (modem, VT2442, computer)? Does BSNL require a static IP? If so, did they enter that in the VT2442? Does BSNL require that the MAC number of the router be registered with them? |
