PostPosted: Wed May 10, 2006 12:23 pm    Post subject: No Dial Tone or Phone Lights After New Modem Reply with quote Back to top

My Vonage has been going downhill for 2 months.
I have a business and I could no longer do 3 way calling and the voice quality outgoing had become horrible even though my bandwidth was still 500+kbps

I could call both parties but coudn't connect them together. Finally they sent me a new RT31P2 Linksys Router.

My config is

Time Warner Road Runner Cable Modem > Linksys Wireless G Router > Vonage Router

Here's the best part.. I got the new modem, hooked it up and suddenly I have no phone light or dial tone....

I then hooked up my old modem since I felt like I didnt want to deal with this right now and it does the SAME thing with the old modem..... no dial tone no phone lights....

**** is going on here. I have a cell phone only here and I can't use 3 hours up talking to techs that will tell me to power cycle 3 times which i have already done btw.

I am angry and losing work time. I will be switching to my ISP's cable model in a day or 2 if I can get this thing resolved.

First did you register your MAC on the new modem with your ISP?

Secondly, did you power cycle your modem, router and phone adapter in this order back up when you switched modems?

Lastly ,if the power cycle doesn't work try resetting your phone adapter to factory settings with the reset button on the back of the phone adapter and then power everything down and bring them backup in this order. Modem>>>router>>>phone adapter.

Most ISP dont have open MAC address and therefore require you to register your MAC address with them in order for you to communicate with their servers. This is probably your problem. Give them a call and post your findings.

Did you get a new cable modem or a new Vonage ATA or both? You mention getting a new RT31P2, but then you keep referring to the "new modem" and the "old modem".

My old modem stopped working so i got a replacement in the mail of the exact same modem the RT31P2 Linksys.

The thing is like i said, after i hooked it up I got no phone light. Just prior to this my other modem was working fine except for the 3 way calling not working and the sound quality. When I hooked up the original modem, it then gave me the same issues (no phone light or dial tone) as my new replacement.

also i did do the power cycling

FWIW, my ISP made me register my modem's MAC as well. I remember this becasue they screwed it up and I had to spend time with CS.

If they didn't, anyone with a modem could hook up and get access, no?
