I just bought a router yesterday. I want to be able to get acess to my computer from work through the web and VNC & stuff.
If I put the Vonage Motorola MTA behind the router, as far as I can see it is not even attempting to get an IP address from the router.
I'm very new to all this so I'm not sure of even how to proceed. Please help!
Thanks! |

Yes it is DHCP capable. Here's the link to the router I bought: http://tinyurl.com/y5tr

If I set it up this way: Cable Modem -> Moto -> M$ Router -> PC + Phone service works correctly + Internet access on my PC works - I cannot see my web server (I've tried multiple configs on the Moto & router with Port Forwarding, DMZ, etc.)
If I set it up this way: Cablem Modem -> M$ Router -> Moto & PC + I get internet access + I can see my web server from outside the LAN - No Vonage service. The moto continues to blink twice indefinitely. It does not get assigned an IP address from the router.
Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

But shouldn't it first get an IP address from the router via DHCP so I know which IP to forward ports to? |

The only device it shows connected is my PC. Maybe it's time to check out Costco's return policy |

I have the MN-500 model.
what your going to have to do is go into your mta through you pc... and set it to a static ip number.
both 500 and 700 have some problems with seeing the devices attached to it. I have two computers and the mta hooked to it... and it has not yet seen any of them.
if you goto security then base station log you can see the router assign ip address.
good luck |

Wow, that ****. I think I will try to take it back...
I thought it was odd when I opened the box and there were all these warnings everywhere telling me that I must first install the system software first before connecting the router to my PC.
I was going to try to connect a linux box to it tonight. I'm thinking already that it is not going to work. |
