1. Your location: New York City
2. Your ISP: Time warner road runner cable
3. 100 mbps
4. modem: RCA broadband
5. Type of Vonage adapter: Motorola VT2442
6. Setup of Network: Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC

7. Issue: My internet speeds are are a lot slower when my phone is hooked up. I have a 2.4 ghz AT&T cordless phone and it makes my internet browsing really slow down to about half normal speed. It doesnot matter if i am using the phone or not. When i plugged in a old style corded phone my speeds went back to normal. Is there a solution to this? does everyone experience these problems with cordless phones? Will I get better results with the Vonage cordless phone?

8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com: 3.6 on call to boston

thanks for any help.

I don't see any wireless components in your setup. Does the modem have it built in? 2.4 GHz cordless phones cause problems with wireless networks.

I did read in here that 2.4 ghz causes problems with wireless but I am not even using a wirleess phone, it is simply cordless hooked in to my router jack. I do not have any wireless compnonents involved but there is a big difference in my internet connection when i have the cordless plugged in vs. the corded phone.

Let me say that I have had Vonage for 1 week now. So far I have also seen the same problem that you see. In addition to your problem I'm also having my Vonage adaptor lose sync with the Vonage service on a daily basis. I haven't had a constant dial tone yet for a whole 24 hr period. A reset of the Motorola VT2442 usually fixes it, but I'm getting really tired of the internet slow downs and losing a dial tone every day. When I placed my order with Vonage I was disappointed to find out I was being shipped a Motorola product. I never have good luck with anything from Motorola. Maybe Vonage will send us a different phone adapter since I strongly believe the problem is with the Motorola adapter.
I am using SBC DSL to my DSL modem to the Motorola VT2442 to 2 computers. My service is 1.5 down 128 up. My calls sound good but the constant reboots might make me look towards Lingo or Packet 8 and away from Vonage. Please let us know if you solve your problem. Also I am using a Uniden 2.4ghz cordless phone plugged into the Vonage adapter.

Do these slow downs occur just during initial connection with a site, or do they remain after you're in contact with the site? If the former, there may be DNS issues with the VT2442. Read about similar things here .

My slowdowns continue after the initial contact with a new site. They are random and seem to come and go. I can't speak for the OP though.

PostPosted: Thu May 25, 2006 11:37 am    Post subject: New Uniden Cordless 2.4 Ghz & VT2442 Interference? Reply with quote Back to top

I just added a Uniden 2.4Ghz cordless phone onto my home phone landline which appears to be interfering with the separate Vonage service using the VT2442 router. Here are the various scenarios:

1) When I call my Vonage number from the Uniden cordless, the call goes to my Vonage voicemail directly 95% of the time.
2) When I call from any other phone in the house to my Vonage number it rings the Vonage connected phone properly. [Uniden 2.4Ghz phone not being used]
3) When an outside caller calls my Vonage number and the Uniden 2.4Ghz phone is in use in the house, the call goes to voice mail. When the Uniden 2.4Ghz phone is not in use or one of the other house phones are in use, the call to the Vonage number comes thorough properly.

I can only conclude that when the Uniden 2.4Ghz phone is in use on the landline it interferes with the VT2442. Btw, I have two other cordless phones and several corded phones attached to this single landline and have experienced no problems when they are in use and the Vonage service works fine.

Go figure!

Sounds strange. Do you have any wireless LAN components in your setup? The VT2442 isn't one, so I don't know what the cordless is interferring with.

I know it does indeed sound strange and does not make sense! To confirm, there are no wireless components in the LAN. Now that the 2.4 GHz phone has been taken out of the equation, there are no problems with the incoming calls.
