This is my first such post here, but short of calling Vonage and waiting on hold for 45 minutes I'm not sure where to turn.

For the past 48 hours I've been having a lot of trouble with my Vonage line. I've had to reset the adapter twice due to no dial tone. I've had two people say they couldn't reach me even though I had a dial tone and could dial out (one said it just rang and rang, the other said it was a fast busy). Before I pull my hair out with troubleshooting, could it be a Vonage issue?

Here's the info:

1. Your location

West Windsor, NJ (just outside of Princeton, near Trenton)

2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)

Comcast cable

3. Upload and download speeds

3064/350 according to dslreports.com

4. Modem make and model

Motorola SB5100 Surfboard

5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2

Motorola VT1005

6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC

Modem -> Vonage Adapter -> Netgear WPN824v2 RangeMax Router -> PCs

7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc

See above. Call quality is generally acceptable. But I'm having some trouble calling in/calling out in ways that I can't predict.

8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston.

Your packet discards are huge in both directions. Try plugging your computer directly into your modem and repeating the test. If the results don't improve dramatically, then you have an issue to discuss with your ISP.

I'll try that. Let's say the packet discards improve and it's not the modem/ISP. What could be the problem?

My adapter is vintage July 2004. If that's the problem, is there a way of replacing it and keeping my phone number?

If it's the adapter, there should be no problem replacing it. Vonage can send you a new one or you can buy one at retail and register it with Vonage. Your phone number would remain the same.
