Hello again: Our friends in Settle received an email from Vonage at the weekend explaining their new plan- NEW FREE CALLS TO EUROPE: she is so happy all her family live in London.
SEE BELOW: NEW! Free Calls to Europe Included with Unlimited Plans
Now with our Unlimited plans, calling to Europe with Vonage isn't international, it's local. By waiving international fees to Italy, France, Spain, UK and Ireland, Vonage treats calls to these countries just like traditional local calls throughout the US. So calls to Paris cost the same as calls to your neighbor down the street - nothing!
Calling is Easy Dialing to Europe is easy. There are no special access numbers to dial. So call Europe all you want. With Vonage it's all included, FREE!
Details Free calls to Europe offer does not apply to calls to cell phone numbers or to special services numbers such as toll-free or caller-paid information services or 900 numbers, and is limited to Italy, France, Spain, UK and Ireland. Valid for Unlimited plans only.
NOW MY QUESTIONS IS; IS THIS PLAN AVAILABLE TO CANADIAN Vonage CUSTOMERS, it would be wonderful for me as all our family live in London and we live in Canada. So far I have not received the same email from Vonage informing Vonage CANADA CUSTOMERS of this NEW PLAN. |

As of right now, it is not available. Who knows what they have in mind? The regular rates are still listed.
Besides, the unlimited plan for the USA is roughly $10 cheaper than the Canadian version. |

I don't understand Vonage, why is it more expensive for Canadians? It is the same exact service, and we run through their servers. I am actually very dissipointed in Vonage, I am looking into Voip. I don't know which company I can go with, becuase Vonage is more expesnive then most Voip providers out there. |

I'd imagine is related to the market. Many Canadian Voip offerings I've seen, are around CDN$45-55. Many USA Voip offerings are in that USD$20-30 range. Plus there are alot more USA companies in the market.
It is dumb though. It's cheaper for me to have a USA primary number with a Canadian virtual than to have the Canadian version as my primary only. I think I could throw in a toll-free number a well and be in the price ballpark.
I doubt much will be done about the discrepency. Sadly, the lack of competition (on a few levels), likely will result in few changes. |

If it makes you feel better, Canadian Internet providers charge less than American ones do. So if you lived in the US, you'd pay less for your Voip but more for the Internet connection to make it work.
If you have access to a US mailing address you could subscribe to the US service, but you'd have to add your Canadian number as a virtual number at additional cost (or live with only the US number). |

Don't know if your were responding to me or not. However, I'm under the impression that the discrepancy in the ISP charges is really no longer. I believe many of my friends/family are paying between $25 and $30 a month to ISPs in the US. Very comparable with the speeds and packaging I've seen north for the 49th.
As far as subscribing to the US service and adding a Canadian virtual. That's exactly what I have.
Bringing it back to the original post. I don't believe there is really an excuse for Vonage not being able to offer the free calls to Europe. I suspect that the competitive market has much to do with that. I doubt Vonage feels they have to be cutting edge or the market leader. As long as they are competitive with the competition, and with not much competition offers a European calling plan, it's doubtful there's much pressure to offer the calls to Europe for Vonage Canada subscribers. |
