A few q's

I want Vonage because according to my estimates it would save me 180 dollars a month. I currently have 4 telephone lines (3 ones for everyday use and 1 fax). I also have a phone system and about 12 phones. (Big house 7000sq feet). I wish to get Vonage as it would save me a bundle as previously stated. Potential issues
1. phone system. Can i make Vonage work with it?
2. security system. would a security system work fine?
3. upspeed i have 3000/300 dsl (if i stick with this i would keep the fax line with sbc so i could have dsl) is that enough for 3 lines?
4. should i want cable so i could have all four lines on Vonage where can i get something faster than the pos 3000/256 plan everyone offers...
5. fax machines. Do they work?

1. Probably, but I haven't tried myself, so others may have more experience with this question.

3. Your upspeed may be adequate - the highest sounds quality used 90kbps, so 90 times 3 is still less than your 300kpbs upspeed.

Questions 2, 4 & 5: I have had bad luck using Vonage with fax machines and data services. Some users report that their fax machines work well, but success has been elusive for me. If you use a fax machine on your Vonage line, expect a maximum faxing speed of 9600 bps, whereas many fax machines support faxing at 14400 bps and some newer devices at up to 33600. Even at the 9600 speed, I could seldom send a complete fax successfully. For the same reasons faxing works poorly, data services such as TiVo and security systems may not work great.

Because I do a great deal of faxing, and I want to get the maximum speed from my fax machines, I have a regular POTS line in addition to my Vonage line.

My advice to you would be to keep the regular fax line and switch your voice lines to Vonage.
