I live in Michigan and my Vonage bill included a sales tax charge of $1.62. I was courious if this tax was charged by the state of Michigan or the federal government? Also my FET tax went up, is the FET tax based on the total amount of your bill? Vonage is still cheaper than other telcos but I am starting to worry as new fees are being sneaked in. Is this the end of cheap phone service?? I hope not.

Under the Vonage Service Status:

NOTICE: On or about May 1, 2006, we will begin charging sales tax to customers in several states across the US. Some state and local governments are requiring that we assess sales taxes on your internet phone service. These charges may be a flat fee or a percentage of your charges and may change from time to time without notice.

That would be a Michigan tax in your case.

I don't know about the FET tax. How much was the increase?
