I think most companies offer deals to their "premium" customer more often than not. I have the unlimited plan, but will probably switch to the 500 minute plan after a couple of months once I know how my calling pattern will be. If I get more stuff with the unlimited plan for things I need/want then I would look at the value as a whole. I don't call Europe, so this is not a big deal to me, but if I did and I had the 500 minute plan I'd have to look at what it would cost me to call on the plan as is vs paying an extra $10 every month.
I just hope Vonage starts adding features that their subscribers keep asking for... anonymous call blocking anyone?
Yes, well...I was hoping Vonage wouldn't be like most companies in certain respects. One thing that set it apart from telcos (in my mind) was that they gave the full feature set to subscribers whether they opted for the unlimited plan or the 500 minutes/month plan.

You guys are friggin CRAZY...!!!
Your telephone company just tells you that you can
call many countries in europe FOR FREE...and you COMPLAIN????
Not a price INCREASE like every OTHER company...but a decrease..
My god, what does vonage have to do to make some people happy???! You're paying 25 bucks a month for unlimited phone service to the US, canada, europe...etc and features that the bells can't match...(EVEN THOUGH THEY CHARGE AN ARM AND A LEG FOR the ones they can)
and YOU"RE COMPLAINING???
Do me a favor...drop vonage...go back to Verizon and let's see what kind of price reductions you get from them...
Madon!!

Not everyone is on the unlimited plan. And people aren't necessarily complaining, we're just voicing our opinions on this marketing decision. In any case, even if people were complaining, why do you want them to drop Vonage? How does it affect you at all? The tone of this thread was fairly civil until your post.

We all know how "tones" come across in posts & e-mails...
I wasn't feeling un "civil"....Just exasperated.
I am going to save 10 bucks a month on my phone service now... I'll take that over not having to let my anwsering machine screen the 1 call a month I get with no caller ID....
Anyway..
THANKS VONAGE!!!

Wonder if this is the reason..
Vonage does not deduct mins from your 500 plan for international calls, they just charge the fee for the call.
When they change their billing system, maybe, they will allow the same included calls for no added charge.
There may be a feeling that unlimited calls will be made, without using minutes, and the people with the $24.95 unlimited plan will complain.
Just a thought..

I think it is much more likely that they just want to move people away from the 500 minute plan. Have you noticed that the overage charge for extra minutes has recently increased substantially?
I used to have the 500 minute plan and always had some overage, but not enough to compensate for the extra $10 for the unlimited plan. However, with the overage rate increase I was thinking of changing anyway, and since I also used to spend about $40 a month on calls to England, Vonage have just done me a big favor.

Post subject: International Calling Setting
If I have my International Calling Setting set to block outgoing calls to international numbers, will it still block calls to Italy, France, Spain, UK and Ireland?
If it no longer blocks calls to those countries, will it block calls to numbers that would incur a charge in those countries such as cell phone calls?

I suspect that blocking international calling is an all or nothing deal.

I just came across a rumor that not only does Vonage not include Germany and some other European countries in the free calling plan but wants to raise certain per minute rates. Is that true?
