PostPosted: Mon May 01, 2006 1:01 am    Post subject: Gadget Needed: transfer calls automatically - Vonage to PSTN Reply with quote Back to top

I've searched around for a solution for the problem below but didn't find what I'm looking for.

I have Vonage account and use the Vonage line in Israel. It's been working for a number of years with relatively good quality. The number is a local NY (646) number so I can call the Vonage line from anywhere in the States from my cell phone for no additional cost.
I'm looking for a small device XYZ that will act as a PBX hooked up to Vonage and Israeli PSTN simutaneuosly. In effect, I want to call Vonage number, dial a code (or no code) and be able to dial local israeli number through the israeli PSTN. I also want to be able to get to the local extension connected to that device XYZ. Ideally, it will work vice versa as well. A person will be able to call through israeli PSTN, get the XYZ device, dial a number and get transferred out to USA number through the Vonage line.
The above can be achieved through almost any office PBX (too expensive) or Asterisk (too complicated). I also found a new device that allows to achieve part of the above functionality through the Skype network (requires computer turned-on) - Actiontec by Vosky.

Any ideas how to achieve this with Vonage?

Thank you!

You can do this easily with Asterisk. Try out Asterisk@Home on google and you will find your answers.

Give this guy a call... he tends to have some VERY odd & unique phone adapters/toys/tools which make life easier:

http://www.sandman.com/

He probably does have something in stock which can handle that.

*Other than buying things from there once or twice, I have no affilliation/frienship/etc with him.

I have an identical need for placing these types of calls in Nicaragua!!! If you find a solution, pls share it here or send me a PM. THANKS!

EDIT: I've downloaded the docs for the SPA-3000 and I don't think it will work in our situation because the device needs a SIP Gateway to work. We would have to get softphones for this solution to work... not using the Vonage hardware, since the SIP info is locked.

I have two Vonage boxes and pay for both numbers. I just want my family in Nicaragua to be able to call me at home using one of the Vonage boxes down there. They don't all live in the same house... thus the question. How is this illegal???

OK, check these :
http://sipphone.com/fx200/

There are two models, with different voltages.. I don't own one, but checked them out. I'm not sure it will work for your situation.

Suppose you had one of these. It would attach to both Vonage and a land line. You could call home from your cell phone (or land line) Then you would be connected through Vonage for cheap calls.. You can also call your Vonage line and transfer to a land line.

Readcarefully, the two models have somne differences. Get the PDF instructions to be sure you purchase the correct unit.

I *do* believe that this is what you need.

General Information

SIPCPE FX200 VOIP Port Converter

Compatible with Cisco, Grandstream and Sipura VoIP adaptors only.

For a detailed overview of the capabilities of the SIPCPE FX200, please visit http://www.sipcpe.com/fx-features.html

Now you can use your VOIP service to make and receive telephone calls even when you're out of the office, with SIP CPE Sources' FX-200 VoIP Port Converter.

The majority of the 1 and 2 port gateways and analog terminal adapters on the market are not configured with an FXO or Line port. With the FX200, you can use "Transit In" and "Transit Out" functions with your gateway or analog terminal adaptor in conjunction with your VOIP service.

Want to place a VOIP call while traveling or away from your office? With the FX200, simply call the number of a telephone line connected to the FX-200 from an outside line or cell phone. Callers to a telephone line connected to the FX-200 receive dial tone from the VoIP adaptor, and are able to make a call seamlessly, as though connected directly to the adapter with a normal handset.

Additionally, you can program the FX-200 to dial a VOIP number automatically whenever you call a local PSTN number.

Now your Vonage, ICH, FWD, Sipphone or other VOIP callers can reach you when you are out of the home or office. Using an existing telephone line in your home or office, the FX-200 can be quickly, easily and even remotely configured to auto call forward or "transfer" your VOIP calls from your VoIP adaptor to any local telephone number even to your cell phone. VOIP callers will receive local dial tone after a set number of rings. With the FX-200's Transit Out feature with Auto Call Forwarding, missed VOIP calls are a thing of the past.

Please Note The 5v FX-200 is not compatible with Packet8 DTA 310 or the Motorola ATA.

********************
Depending on your Vonage modem, you may need the 12v version. Note the compatable modems.
