I have DSL with a linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router with a Vonage RTP300 adaptor behind it, with a hawking broadband booster. The voice sounds good both ways, the only problem I have now is I can't surf the net while I'm on the phone.

The net cuts off when I'm on the phone, once I turn off the phone I can surf the net again. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just unhooked the Hawking Booster and I still can't surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time. It must be the Linksys 54g router that I just bought today.

Are you using a wireless phone in the 2.4Ghz band by any chance? If you are, it's your wireless phones use of the same wireless spectrum as your router that is the problem.

The only solution to this is to either use a corded phone instead, or buy a new phone that works on a different frequency (like one of the 5.xGhz models).

Yaz.

I switched to a corded phone and i still can't talk and surf. I called customer support and they made me put the rtp300 in front of the linksys wt54g v.5 and it worked. I rather have the rtp300 delegated to Vonage use only, don't know why it won't work.

This is almost always caused by the Vonage device having "MAC Address Cloning" turned on and set to a MAC address of another device on your network (the device Vonage is "conflicting" with).

Check MAC Address Clone on the RTP300 (under the main SETUP menu) and make sure it is set to "Disable".

God Bless you Nate. I turned off the MAC Address clone on the RTP300 and it works fine now. Thank you..

Can you tell me how to config the Setup you have mentioned above? I am experiencing the exact problem. I was unable to connect to the 192.168.15.1 address which I assumed that was the page you were talking about. Thank you.

In order to access the 192.168.15.1 address, you need to temporarily plug your computer directly into the Vonage router.

If your primary router is a WRT54G series router, here are some more detailed instructions:

http://vonage.nmhoy.net/wrt54gl.html (even if you can't load the aftermarket firmware, most of the instructions still apply)

Nate, is there a guide somewhere where I can find out how to throttle individual applications. The phone works find, however, when I'm on the phone and surfing at the same time everytime I click on a new webpage, you can hear the audio on the phone get choppy.

I have the Hawking device and I thought that would help, but I guess that's just for uploading. I also have a linksys 54g v. 5 as my main router.

Any suggestions?

Sorry, there's not a thing you can do to help INBOUND audio, except not use your inbound connection as much.

QoS only works outbound. With outbound QoS, you control the packets routed to your Internet modem before they hit the modem.

In order for it to work inbound, you'd have to be able to tell your ISP which packets should get queued to your modem from their side first. And that just isn't going to happen. By the time you see the packets for any sort of QoS control, they've already passed through the bottleneck and are ready to be queued on your LAN.

What is your download speed?
