I can connect to the Internet fine. I am running a DLink webcam which has its own server so people outside must type in the IP address assigned by Comast to see the images from the camera. That's the problem - people outside can not get to the camera. Example: Ouside types in http:\\(comcast assigned ip address:5001) This gets them to my cable modem which should get them to my Linksys router whose internal IP address is 192.168.1.1 and the camera is 192.168.1.150. Since my Linksys router does not pick up the latest IP address assigned by Comcast, people ouside can not get to my router and hence to the camera. |

Ah...I think I see what the problem is now. You need to forward port 5001 to 192.168.1.150. That way requests that come in from the outside will reach the correct internal IP. By the way, your Linksys router is not getting the "wrong" IP. There are two IPs: an outfacing one and an internal one. If your router wasn't getting the correct outfacing IP you wouldn't even be able to browse the internet. Anyway, forward the port and you should be good to go. |

Blakadher has it exactly right.
Comcast does not guarantee a static IP address and they use DHCP to assign them. But my experience has been that I have had the same IP address from them for over a year.
BUT, if I connect a different router (with a different MAC address) to the modem (for testing) I do get a different IP address. If I clone the new router to use my 'old/normal' MAC address then I get the same 'old' IP address. |
