Hi,

I have a Vonage Linksys PAP2 phone adapter, I have used it in US and was working fine. Now, last week I sent it to India, but they are facing problems with it.

1. Used with Hathway, but did not get dial tone.
2. The power, and ethernet lights are on, but the phone light does not.
3. Tried a couple of combinations of powering the adapter, but still not luck.
4. At times, was getting a kind of 'engage' tone, but could not dial, nor could receive calls (the phone led blinked).

Next, tried using with MTNL Tri Band.

1. Connected the ethernet output of the ADSL to the phone adapter WAN input.
2. And also connected the phone, to line 1 of the adapter.
3. But still not dial tone, only the ethernet and power led is on, the phone led is off.
4. Here tried a couple of options of powering on the adapter, but still not luck.

Any suggestions? Has anyone tried with MTNL ADSL connection? Anyone with Hathway internet connection faced any issues?

Any hints are welcome.

i have similar issues.
Connection: The telephone wire remains attached to the old router. From there a ethernet cable goes into the Vonage router ( linksys) From linkys router another cable goes into the PC ethernet port. A telephone is attached to the linksys router and calls can be made through it.
Now the problem: The router has to be configured by going to the admin page. I use win 98 so i had to change the ip address to 192.168.15.1 and then i can access the admin page, but if ido that i cannot access the MTNL interface. Similarly if i keep the page at 192.168.1.1 then linksys router stops working.
Would assign ip address automatically work in windows 98 ( i tried it before but the net used to disconnect every minute)? would changing to xp work? any other brainwaves?

Hi Vinay,

Did it work for you? Are you in Mumbai?
If you can let me know the excat steps, I can try it myself.

At present the layout is:

MTNL ADSL -> Linksys (PAP) Vonage Phone Adapter -> Phone

Jigar, it works if u connect the ADSL to router and then to a phone. As soon as i connect the router to the PC it stops working.. Some network settings in PC needs to be changed. If u find anything better let me know.
Also not getting an Indian adapter, I am presently using a transformer / converter

Hi Vinay,

I am confused as to what do you mean by 'router'

Is your configuration:
MTNL ADSL -> Router -> PAP (Vonage Adapter) ->Phone ?

I am connecting as follows:
MTNL ADSL -> Vonage Adapter (PAP) -> Phone.

I do not have a seperate router, also I do not connect the PC to the ADSL.
Which Vonage router are you using?

Hi,

Technical Details are as below:

1. Your location: Mumbai, India
2. Your ISP name and type: MTNL, DSL
3. Upload and download speeds: 512
4. Modem make and model: Motorola
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2: PAP2
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->Phone

Problem facing, is that I do not get any dial tone. Also there is no phone led glowing in the PAP2 when all connected.
