PostPosted: Thu Apr 27, 2006 11:06 am    Post subject: very choppy sound when talking to anyone but vonage / vm Reply with quote Back to top

Just in the last couple of days, the quality of my Vonage calls have tanked - to the point of being completely unusable. I don't think the problem is on my end though, cause if I call customer service, or check my voice mail (or when they call me to offer a second phone line - go figure), it sounds great.

The people in tech support at Vonage just tell me to reboot everything, and maybe I should try switching to the 2nd phone jack on my cisco 186 ata. But I don't know what that is going to solve, as I can talk with them just fine. The problem seems to be a termination issue (maybe in Chicagoland?) with Vonage.

I use SBC DSL service with a Linksys WRT54G v2.2 router. The testyourvoip.com score to Boston was 3.8 and 3.9 on two different tests.

I've been using Vonage for years now with no major problems - has something changed recently?

Thanks in advance for any information.

To answer all the info on the sticky:

1. I'm in downtown Chicago, IL
2. SBC Yahoo DSL
3. 1157.4 kbps downstream according to cnet.com test - not sure about upstream
4. Speedstream ADSL 5100
5. Cisco ATA 186
6. DSL Modem -> Linksys WRT54G v2.2 -> Cisco ATA 186
7. extremely choppy sound on calls outside Vonage network
8.

Any thoughts?

Hey Drew, no offence but the point of an online forum is to post the solutions..., for all to view... and publicly posting an email addy is a great way to get hit with a ton of spam.
