Post subject: MTA Behind Router (pulling out hair...quickly going bald)
Need help. Using a netgear router with motorola mta and zyxel dsl modem. Originally had problems getting system up and running and we discovered that the router is required with this setup...so taking it out of loop not an option. System worked great under windows and some linux distros with mta placed in front of router....but would not work with other linux distros.
Voip
worked fine...but internet would hang for 30 sec or more (resolving host) before going to a page. Tried everything i could think of (which is not a lot and finally determined that with the mta out of system...everything worked fine. Of course no longer had
Vonage
service. Saw a post about puttin MTA bedhind router and thought maybe that would do it...but no go. mta just flashes 2 pulses and never goes solid. any suggestions greatly appreciated....todd

Try activating port forwarding and see how it works. Not all routers need it (I suspect they work with the ATA's UPnP), but others do.

I assume you turned off the power to both the modem and the mta, then started the modem, followed by the mta.
Mine did the same after moving the connections. Powering off/on the devices did the trick.
