Help,
I just got Vonage last week; they already sent me a new modem VT2442 and so did my ISP comcast SB5120. For some reason my cable modem reboots during a call (not when I am surfing the net) several times, but the call does not drop completly. Comcast states everyting is good on their end and Vonage does not have a clue what could be wrong. Ping test are normal Down Stream 2.14MPBS Up Stream 318kbps. Help please..... |

Can either party hear each other when this "reboot" happens? You mention that the call doesn't get dropped, so how long does it take for things to come back to normal?

I wanted to say thank you for the feedback I have enjoyed my experience here I went to the comast store and replaced my modem with a new Motorola SB5101 I still drop the call. When I am talking the other person knows that it is dropped (silence for 30 seconds) before I do then the modem lights go out and then they go back on one by one. Comcast is comming out tomorrow so I hope they help. |

Curious - why did you downgrade from an SB5120 to a SB5101? I'd return the 5101 since it's not the solution. The 5120 is a nice cable modem.
I went through Comcast to get my Vonage issues resolved since I knew it was their fault. But it took 4 appointments. The first 2-3 are normal techs that look for basic things - network setup, visible wires, coax connectors, etc. If they can't resolve the issue, they'll send out the big guns that have all the high tech equipment that can monitor both up and downlinks. Hopefully your issue is something simple and can get resolved quickly. Mine ended up being a bad wire in the street.
It may help reading this thread (vonage-forum.com/ftopic12747.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">Comcast, outbound drops) and do some of the things Comcast had me do. I had PingPlotter running, showing the outages, but they wanted me to be tracing comcast.net since it's all on their network.
One other thing is they expect the connection to be only the cable modem and computer. Not routers inbetween, or they'll have you contact Vonage for help, assuming it's the router acting up. You'll obviously will be without phone service during this time, so get your cell phone charged and put it on the Vonage list of numbers to call.
Good luck.
