Hi,
I have a RTP-300 which i managed to configure successfully and tested the phone line. It worked perfectly.

I restarted my PC after a software update and noticed that the internet is not getting connected. Checked the Ipconfig and was surprised that the default gateway is coming empty and the IP address was also something different that I had configured.

I've tried restarting the PC and the router numerous times, but no use. Attaching the output of the the commands I have tried.

if I get the default gateway address, I can log into the configuration page and assign my ISP's address, but I can't as the modem is not returning a gateway address. I have tried the factory reset button, but still no use.

Could somebody tell me what is wrong with the router? Please help.

I'd check to see if DHCP was turned on in the RTP first. If not, turn it on, and reboot the mess. If it is, reboot it all in order: Modem first, wait 30 seconds, router next, wait 30 secs, PC next. If still no joy, let us know. What kind of modem do you have and who is your provider? The only way I've ever had that happen is if the modem wasn't communicating with the cable company, which is their issue.

Go into the web interface, and it should be on the first page that comes up. Look for DHCP, DHCP server, or something to that effect and enable it if it's not.

The Web interface doesn't open at all. I get a page not found error in IE. I used 192.168.15.1 as the address to access web interface.

I've tried resetting the router using the button on the back, but no luck. Can you suggest what to do?

I assume you have the computer directly connected to the router with an ethernet cable, right?

Open a command prompt on your PC,
and type this command: arp -a

Post your results here.

Yes, I have connected the computer directly to the router with the ethernet cable.

I get the following output

D:\Documents and Settings\user>arp -a
No ARP Entries Found

So, you put a patch on your PC and now you're not getting an IP address via DHCP. How are you coming to the conclusion you have a problem with the router?

Does your NIC show connected or disconnected?

I had installed a Service pack to Visual Studio. I guess it has nothing to do with a network card.

I'm able to access internet using the same NIC. So the problem is not with the ethernet card in the computer. Also, I have checked on the option 'Show on connected', so I see the network connected in the system tray.

Earlier, I had connected the internet cable to the Voip router, and had connected the ethernet card to the router's ethernet ports. It had worked properly.

I guess after the restart, the Router has lost the Gateway settings.

I don't know if its changed since you first posted but you can't get there from here the way you show in the first posts ...
Your pc got an auto-configure IP address when it couldn't get an IP address from the router: 169.254.142.166. So the only thing it knows about are routes on 169.254.142.0 network.

You won't be able to talk to the router, which thinks its address is 192.168.15.1. And, it apparently is not acting as a DHCP server, so you need to have an address on the same network as it in order to configure it.

To make this work, change the TCP/IP properties of the NIC on the PC so that you give it a static IP address on that same network (e.g., 192.168.15.2). Make the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway 192.168.15.1.

Now try to connect to the router via your web browser. When you get the router connected, you should be able set it up to be a DHCP Server.

When that's done, then return to the NIC on the PC and change it back to "Obtain IP address via DHCP" ... in other words, remove everything that you put in to give it a static address.

When you do that, it should get an address from the DHCP server in the router in whatever range of IP addresses you set up and the router should tell your PC that it (the router) is the default gateway. .
