Hi Leo,
Please keep us posted of your experience with vonage in India. Thanks!

Off the topic: Since today evening, my calls to India do not go through. I get an engaged tone or a recorded message saying " Please replenish your acct or some such"

The actual message is
"You have insufficient balance. Please re-charge your account"

Looks like Vonage's last mile connection in India may be in some trouble.

Looks like a temporary problem. Vonage customer service asked me to reboot MTA, but of course, I didn't. Just tried calling India about 10 minutes later and the calls went through.

I too have occasional problems with calling International to India, but either I wait for some time and try again or just use my Calling card.
I will definitely post my experience on trying Vonage back in India. Not sure when exactly I will be going back but definitely by the end of the year.

Anyone who has had success using Vonage in India, or know of anyone who has used it, please post all the details like the ISP provider, speed of connection etc. It will be a few months before I move back so I would really appreciate any kind of feedback.
Thanks in advance,
LEO Cool

Hi,

I am in India now. I got my vonage phone activated in Dallas and was working great there. Here, in Mumbai, I am using a cable Internet line, and after connecting the linksys vonage phone adaptor, I got a dial tone.
But when I dial any number, i hear one ring and then it stops.

Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? Is it my ISP?
If someone has been successful in using the vonage service in india please tell me...

Thanks,

Ravneet

I have 'heard' of people who have successfully connected using vonage in several locations using various providers such as:
Hathway
BSNL
Tata Indicom
Airtel

I have 'heard' of people doing it in Chennai and in Hyderabad.

The key is that it is different for each provider but the logic is common based on the type of the adaptor.

So if any one is having problems, please post the specific adaptor device model and your ISP name, I can help you out.

Regards,
Dingloo

I was in India in November and December and took Vonage with me. I was in Vizag, which on the East coast for about 4 weeks and then in Mumbai for about 2 weeks. I used the Vonage service with no problems from both locations. I was using the hotels broadband internet service.

Hi,

Do you know who the broadband service provider was in the locations you stayed?

Or you can tell me which hotels you stayed then I can find who is the provider there?

Also did u use any convertor for the pin that needs to be pluged in the electricity socket? I have seen one posting about the router being burnt b'se of the voltage issue?

Thanks
Anu
