Notice... if you want to get a second line... get it with a free device ... because when you disconnect one of the lines.. you will be charged a disconnect fee of $41.99 unless you return the device. Now I disconnected one of the lines because of poor quality. and have to pay $41.99 to disconnect.

Actually, Vonage charges the disconnect fee if you disconnect your line for any reason after the 30 day "money back guarantee" period and within the first year of service.

If you cancel in the 30 days, you can send the device back and not be charged the cancel fee. If you cancel after a year or more, you are not charged and do not need to send anything back. Between that period, you do not have to send the device back but you will be charged the cancel fee.

If you added a line and are within the 30 days, I presume you would not be charged that, nor would you have to send the device back, since it's for a different line and they never sent you a device for the line you are canceling.

I had the same issue - using the existing device. Actually if you look in the terms and conditions you'll notice a paragraph that says you will be charged this "disconnect" fee unless you return the device - at that time the disocnnect fee will be refunded. I had to spend an hour on the phone with a supervisor because even though I didn't get a new device (which means they were not out any capital at all except pushing a button) but got a second line they automatically charged me the termination fee.

I called a supervisor though (in the US) and got it removed from the account.

I'd also suggest getting the second device for relability & flexibility. That way, if one device goes belly-up (which they sometimes do), you'll still have a working line. Additionally, the second line can be located anywhere you wish rather than being tethered to the 1st line. You can take it on the road,etc, without depriving the household of phone service.

Not to mention the fact that, should one of the devices suffer from a fried PHONE1 port, you can switch it over to PHONE2 on that device if the port is free, and if the entire device goes "belly up", you can switch the line over to the other device without it costing you anything.

Especially since the devices are generally free-after-rebates, which is not the same thing as being free, but is better than costing full price. Wink
