Idaho is one of the few states where area codes are not available. It is my understanding that if I sign up using a different area code, local friends will be making a long distance phone call to me. Is that correct? If so, I guess I will have to wait until area code 208 becomes available. |

If your friends calling is under 100 mins per month. You could sign up for a toll-free number. After the 1st 1 mins would cost 4.9 cents per minute.
The first 100 is a flat $4.95. This way their calls to you would be cost free to them.
Another option would be to have them call you via the 800, and you could return their call. If you sign up for the correct plan (based on what you use) the cost would be controlled.
Regardless what area code you have, this would work. |

Okay, it's been a year since this topic was started and still no service for Idaho. Is this a political issue? An area code issue? A connection issue?
When will those of us in Idaho be able to sign up for a local number? |

I ended up going with Lingo since they supported Idaho 208 area code. |

How do you like Lingo? I've heard bad things about call quality and customer service. |

Packet8 also supports 208 area codes. Plus their cheaper plus they support ACR and other goodies.
Vonage just is not going anywhere with increasing their area codes nor will they give you an honest reply when you can get through to customer service to ask them.
I'm a mite miffed at their lack of candor and poor customer service. |

As far as 208 area codes, you can fill out a form on our website to inform you when its avail (http://www.vonage.com/avail.php) see "area code notification"
as far as ACR we DO have it, however it is currently in testing along with Do not disturb, and some others. Once these are deemed 100% working we will roll out the new features |

Yeah, I signed up with vonage email notification in May 2004 to let me know when 208 would be available and have not heard from them yet.
So, I went with Lingo @ 19.95/mth for calls to US and Canada. I just checked Pocket8 and they are also 19.95 for call to US and Canada so they are not any cheaper for what I need.
Lingo quality is not perfect but acceptable. Sometimes (once a week or two?) I will loose a conection and have to reset the modem. Also sometimes (few times a week) the line will drop and will have to reconnect.
Not enough problems to change to Pocket8 or any other. |

A lot of good that does considering the people in this thread, obviously, don't have Vonage because they live in Idaho and are still waiting.
I'm through waiting. I'm going to try one of the other companies listed in an earlier post. |
