I have 3 Vonage phone numbers. 2 numbers connected to wrtp54g. The other number is connected to rtp300. I am using network ports on the both devices for various computer equipment. Server, print server, fax machine, etc.... I also use the wireless capabilities of the wrtp54g with a couple of laptops roaming around the house.

Problem,
About every 7 to 8 days the wrtp54g will stop accepting wireless connections. Both phone lines are still operational. All network ports are operational. Communications with the Internet is operational.

Reboot the wrtp54g. All wireless requests are granted. So, we can say wireless is operational.
BUT,
Both phone lines are SIEZED. No dial tone on either line. The rtp300 phone line is still operational. All netowrk ports on wrtp54g and rtp300 are operational.

Now to get the phone ports unsiezed is a pain. I have not found a sure fire method to accomplish this task. What I do currently is reboot multiple times. Power down for 5 to 10 minutes multiple times. Unplug all devices from the wrtp54g. Reset Voice to factory defaults at least once. Reboot some more. Eventually it comes back Provisioned Succcessful and both lines IDLE. This takes at least an hour, sometimes longer.

I have had this problem since day one which was about 4 months ago, so I've had a couple firmware upgrades during this time. The upgrades don't seem to make the problem better or worse.

I've talked to Vonage about this a couple times. No real help. I searched the Internet for info but have found little.

Have any of you experienced this type of problem? I'm looking for a cure obviously or at least a better, faster way to recover from this problem.

That's a strange one. Is there equipment involved that you haven't mentioned? How is it all configured? When you re-boot, do you re-boot everything or just the WRT?

The WRT is configured as a DHCP server and Internet router. I use a static IP address from my ISP. I also have a couple of ports forwarded and remote administration turned on. The remote admin port is NOT set to default. All devices attached to the WRT have static addresses. I have logging turned on and being routed to a Linux server. The devices connecting wirelessly to the WRT obtain their addresses via DHCP from the WRT.

The RTP does not do any routing or DHCP. The RTP is basicly a switch and phone adapter in my configuration. I have the Internet port and the local IP address set to static addresses. All device attached to the RTP device have static addresses. I have logging turned on and being routed to the same Linux server as the WRT.

I have the phone ports plugged into my house wiring. All phone company equipment has been disconnected. I also have an ADT alarm system wired into the mix. Upon alarm activation the alarm system traps on phone line and disables it's use anywhere in the house. Pretty standard stuff.

I start out by rebooting just the WRT. I have had to reboot the RTP device a couple of times after getting the WRT device back on-line. Quite often I will reboot everything just so I know I have everything up and running clean.

Thanks for the detailed description. I'm afraid that I don't see anything there that stands out as the possible source of your problem. I would recommend that in the future you start by re-booting everything. power up in order- modem, then WRT, then RTP, then computers.

Even if that helps in getting you back up more quickly, it doesn't explain the basic problem. Have you ever tried getting rid of all those static addresses and going with DHCP throughout?

Next time this happens I will power everything down and power up as you suggest and let you know how it goes.

It appears that this is a unique problem since I'm seeing any other posts or information about this particular problem. So, I have to wonder if I have a bad device (WRT) or something in my environment that is triggering this event.

I have not thought much about eliminating static addressing but I believe technically I could. I've not tried to use dynamic addressing on servers and printers before.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will post any results I get or changes in behavior to the forum.
