Based on the suggestions in this forum, I went out and got a Netgear RP614 wired router. This solved a lot of problems. Most notably, I'm able to access both the Vonage back (it's behind the router), and my VPN.
Now, I have a slightly off-topic question, but maybe someone can help anyway. I had a wireless network running without the router (i.e., I used a desktop as a gateway which was plugged directly into the MTA box without a router). But now that I've added the router, my wireless network is hosed. Every time I try to share the Internet connection between my old gateway (which is now plugged into the router) and the other wirelessly connected computers, I get an error. Windows XP tells me that it needs the IP address 192.168.0.1 in order to share an internet connection. That also happens to be the factory-configured IP address for the router so I have a conflict. (Note that this was not the case when I used the MTA box as my DHCP server as it uses a different IP address.)
My question is whether there is some way to reconfigure the router so that I am able to share my desktop's internet connection as part of a peer-to-peer wireless LAN.
Thanks for the help...

I answered my own question for anyone else who has the same issue:
I changed the LAN ID of the Netgear box to 192.168.103.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. This allowed my desktop (which acts as a residential gateway) to assign 192.168.0.1 to the wireless card. This resolved all IP address conflicts and allowed my other wireless machines to be assigned other IP addresses, and share the residential gateway's internet connection at the same time. |
