hi,
Got Vonage about two days ago. It works great to local, contintental US and even teh caribean. But when i call International (India), i am having no success. I have opened a ticket with tech support and they said it worked fine for them. If i call from my landline to the same numer in India, its crystal clear.
My setup is PCs-->wireless hub-->netscreen FW--->vonage I got the vtec plugged directly into the Vonage adaptor.
Any hints would be highyl appreciated. |

i have tried all three, normal, high and medium but no use. Wondering does Vonage pass the call across the internet ( maybe their private backbone if they have one) all the way to India or do they have gateays here that dial it across teh PSTN. |

Vonage like many ISP has peering agreement to forward data traffic in this case Voip to POP sites around the globe. Once the data reach the nearest designated country, there are more than one peering agreements with CLEC type of companies (local to India) that connects your call to the PSTN there. The problem is that these companies that provide the gateway to the PSTN network tries to multiplex too many calls and purposely reduce the voice quality as a result. Vonage uses the same companies in India and other countries that serve as PSTN end points for other Voip services and Calling cards. Vonage is trying to have more peering agreements with several different companies to improve the call quality. (But it's a gamble). Ah the benefit of early adopters. |

this would explain it then why the Vonage service **** when calling india as opposed to dialing from the land line.
Well..i am going to wait a little more if it improves. Haven't told them to cutover my number. If it doesn't, will look at Packet 8. I really want to get off Verizon but if they can't solve my issues, then i don't see any value add. |

Great...More spyware laden, ad popping, resource draining software. |
