Post subject: Caller ID on PBX
I tried posting this before - but it got lost somewhere. I sell small business phone systems and would like to be able to recommend
Vonage
as an alternative to POTS lines. I have a
Vonage
line connected to an Avaya Magix PBX - sort of as a test. Configuration is DSL modem to Barracuda router to Linksys RPT300 to Magix loop-start analog port. Everything works fine - except Caller ID transmission. I have a splitter on the Linksys with a cheap Caller ID box - and the cheap box has no problem with getting Caller Name and Number - the Magix PBX however gets nothing. I have heard that
Vonage
lines are very "noisy" and that the PBX may be having a hard time getting the caller ID data. Is there a filter or a signal booster available that could help??
Vonage
customer support - even at higher levels has been of no help. They tweaked a few things in the router - but all I get is occaisional partial Caller Id info on the PBX (maybe on 1 in a 100 calls). The Magix PBX also has several regular POTS lines - and those have no problem sending Caller ID info to the Magix system.

I think your original thread was here:

I posted a reply to it, theorizing that maybe it was line polarity (admittedly a very long shot).

And, you were correct - the polarity is reversed right from the Linksys RPT300!! - I wonder why???
It will screw things up for some PBX systems for sure.
I tried correcting the polarity - but unfortunately - the Magix PBX still gets no Caller ID information.
At least the polarity is correct now.
