I know they don't recommend it, but I'd prefer to use ICS. The configuration I'd like is the following:
Modem->Netgear Wireless Router (614v2)->PC-> Motorola TA
I've set up my computer for ICS, have a crossover cable, but still can't get it to work. The Motorola TA just continually blinks.
Does anybody know if the Router might be causing the problem? Should I assign a static address to the TA and then use port forwarding? Thanks for any advice. |

Really? How? I didn't think you could use ICS without a crossover. |

Do the LEDs on the back of the Moto box, next to the Ethernet connection, light up when it's plugged in with the cable to the computer? If not, use the other flavor (straight v. crossover) cable to patch them together.
Next, is the Moto box getting an IP from your PC? I don't know if ICS has a DHCP server that can do that, does it?
Finally, what about your configuration is so desirable? Why NOT plug the Moto box into the router, "next to" the PC? With your setup your PC has to be up and running in order to make and receive phone calls. What advantages do you see with that configuration? |

Location. My wireless router is downstairs, my PC is upstairs. I'd like to plug my printer/fax into the Moto ATA.
ICS does have a DHCP server and it does get assigned an IP.
It doesn't light up when a regular cable is plugged into the WAN port when i'm doing ICS. |

Just to be absolutely certain, if the "it" that's not lighting up is either (or both) of the two LEDs mounted at the WAN RJ45 port with the cable plugged in and connected to the PC's Ethernet adapter, you should switch to the other flavor of cable. If you do get one or both of those lights, the cable is fine. FYI, one LED (the green one, I >THINK<), says it has a good connection. The other (yellow?) says it has a 100 Mbps connection.
Unless you have at least one of those LEDs lit you won't get anywhere. |

Because I'm using ICS, I only have the regular ethernet cable plugged into the WAN port on the ATA, and the lights there are not coming on. They do come on for a crossover cable. But I still can't get the ATA to "work" (get a dial tone on my phone). |

One last question (for now): Does your PC have two network cards, with one going to the modem and the other to your ATA box?
Oh, and whichever cable lights those lights is the one to use. |

No - I have a wireless adapter in my computer that connects with my netgear wireless router.
So, 1 NIC card which is connected to ATA. |

OK, you have two network connections (WIFI & NIC). Is there any way you can connect a second computer to the PC side of the MATA box? You're going to have to go in and see if it's getting an IP address. |

Do you have a software firewall installed on your PC, such as Norton Internet Security or Zone Alarm? If so, this is likely where your problem lies. |
