No second computer for the moment. Might be able to borrow a laptop. When I go into network properties, it shows an IP address for the connection (under my NIC properties).

I don't have a software firewall installed.

So to recap, I think we have the following (correct me if I'm wrong):

- The Moto ATA has been confirmed to work by directly connecting it to the cable modem

- You have DHCP enabled for the downstream ICS

- The ATA continually blinks, implying that it isn't connecting

- You have not yet confirmed that the ATA is receiving an IP

If that's the case, it sounds likely that the ICS is blocking the 5060 port from the downstream path. Perhaps Microsoft has a Knowledge Base article about port forwarding in ICS.

That's exactly my situation - I'll check the microsoft database.

Currently the Moto ATA is in front of the router. When I tried to put it directly behind the router, it did the same thing that it does when I ICS it. Could it be that it is the router that is blocking that port?

If so, say that I use ICS and port forward on the router, how would I know what IP address the Moto ATA is located at? Wouldn't it change or will ICS assign it the same one everytime?

Thanks for the help - I'm new to networking and not quite 100% savvy on all of this.

I believe the Moto box is set to use DHCP all the time for its WAN-facing IP, so it'd be up to whatever it's hooked to to give it one.

Is your PC getting a dynamic IP from the router, or do you have that fixed? I'd been under the assumption that the PC is using NAT for its ICS but maybe it has some other system.

What kind of blinks is the Moto box giving? It has different codes for different situations (can't seem to get on their website right now). Constant blinking means, I THINK, that it can't obtain an IP address. A set of four blinks, pause, repeat, I THINK means that it can't see the SIP server (implying port blocking).

This may boil down to "who" is supposed to be assigning IP addresses, the ICS PC or the router, and possible conflicts there.

If all else fails you can get a wireless bridge to "directly" connect your ATA to the router, but that's more $ and I'd try like hell to make this way work, too, if I was you.

BTW, Rong's question in this thread: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic1339.html sounds like yours, and it's because of a conflict with LAN IPs. Both his ICS PC and his router want to sit on the same IP, maybe this is happening with you, too. Any way to check?

I have ADSL with a USB modem going straight into my laptop PC USB port. I turned ICS on, plugged my ATA into the network port of my laptop with a cross over cable (which you you do need on a direct connection between two devices that are expecting to go into a regular hub port), and it worked first time.

Your wireless setup sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I wouldn't be suprised if the combination of router+ICS wasn't letting the ATA communicate properly, plus there's the issue of getting enough bandwidth and reliable bandwidth through a wireless connection.

I decided to just put the ata directly into my router. It didn't initially work - that is, until i assigned it a static IP. Thanks for all the help!

This has happened to me as well.

After you have the crossover cable plugged into the Adapter, you will have the two lights but no phone light. I first would be sure that your ICS is on and then reboot. After you startup, make sure you unplug the adapter and replug it back in AFTER the ICS is connected. It will never work if you dont hard boot the adapter after the ICS is on.

Hope this works.
